I highlight Mike's post here not to begin an argument, but to point out how funny eBay can be sometimes: I had almost nothing but trouble when I shipped overseas. It just seemed like way too much goofy stuff â€” like that described in the original post here â€” happened with about 75 percent of my international deals (which, frankly, there weren't that many to begin with). As an example, I would estimate that I was asked to lie (or told, which was annoying) on customs forms by well over half of my international customers.

Finally, I just said "enough," and I've never looked back. I won't even argue that it's cost me a few bucks, because I'm sure it has. But, man, the hassles aren't there any longer, either, so I'll just have to walk around a few dollars lighter. And sellers like Mike are happy to pick up those customers I've lost, I'm sure.

Anyway, that's eBay in a nutshell to me: lots of different users have had many varied experiences. YMMV, as the kids say ...

Not so in the UK. Here it is ONLY the seller who can claim compensation or complain to the post office - the buyer is considered completely out of the loop.

I bought hundreds and hundreds books and boxes form overseas and only 2 packages were lost, even with M-bag. One time it was from guido, who refund immediatly my money (very honest seller) and packages was sent with global priority yet. And the second time the seller never answered to my emails nor to the ebay procedure.
I think that USPS or other postal services are more than reliable, even with surface mail (and M-Bag, never had any trouble with it). But buyers or sellers are sometimes dishonest, that's all. I have very bad experience anywhere, mostly because of lack of protection, especially from UK sellers. The most reliable sellers (for me, it is based on my experience only, not a reality for everyone) are German, strangely

And I have to be honest, many many many problems with french guys because they are not collectors (it is not in french behaviour to collect old books and RPG) so they can't understand that it is important to add protection around the books...

I just sent him a reply telling him I will not lie on the customs form and he should pay his duties and be done with this mess.

I can't wait to see what he says.

If you check his feedback, chances are that even if you refund his money he is still going to neg you - that's what looks like happened on this most recent neg. He looks like he has a bit of a history of neg'n for shipping prices that he feels are too high even when they are stated in the auction.

Ouch! Yes, check that most recent one out, especially. It looks like a reputable seller got completely burned for trying to do the right thing.

This guy is a complete train-wreck; there's no way I see this ending happily for our seller. Neg. him, block him, and move on.

First neg i ever recieved was from some guy in France. This was five or six years ago. Paid for slow boat mail and got pissed it took forever...

And I could've bought these damn modules off the 1$ rack!!!

The disadvantage of buying from overseas is paying shipping, and maybe getting caught for taxes and duty. It's the risk that one should be willing to accept if you are a buyer.

If you are not willing to accept it, then don't buy it.

I certainly wouldn't let this put you off from buying or selling overseas. It is true that there is more risk, more to go wrong, but part of what I still like about ebay is dealing with great people from around the world. I actually like buying and selling overseas! I love getting packages that have travelled so far to (finally) arrive. It really shrinks the world, and I get a kick from dealing with people - half way across the globe - who share the same passion and have the same game memories

I will still sell overseas, hell 60% of my sales come from there.

This guy is just an anomally, after the New year I will sell again
