Yes, that is a record number of items for one auction adn from any one collection! I think Rob's collection came in at 375 items. Of course, non of this will compare to Dennis Sustare's auction - try 1,000 items!

Actually, I was just talking to Erol and asked him about it, as there has been speculation that he intentionally botched the drawing for those very reasons.

The answer, "As far as I can tell that Bone Hill Hydra is just a really poor composition by yours truly."

As to why a hydra? No, not even Kevin's module includes a hydra - but it does have a lot of reptiles in it. Perhaps it was a case of misleading the plyers as had been done on other modules at the time - A3 and A4 modules come to mind.

I have some additional information I'd like to make available on the TSR Lizard Man Logo Miniature in the Kevin Hendryx auction. Namely, after reviewing an archive photo of the original Dave Sutherland III Lizzard Man miniature sold in 2004, I discovered an alteration of the miniature in the Kevin Hendryx auction.

For reference please compare the original miniature sold in the Dave C. Sutherland III in 2004 by The Collector's Trove:



And now have a look at the one offered here in the Kevin Hendryx auction:



It is the exact same, three piece casting, however there is one alteration to Kevin's figure. Namely the original lower shaft of the axe has been replaced by a taller and, possibly thinner one. The head of the axe is original, of course.

There is also potential damage as well, that being, the lizard man's tongue. There doesn't appear to be any breakage to the tongue on Kevin's figure. In the picture above you can see the tongue slightly protruding from it's maw. However in the blurry photo (that was my old camera) of the Sutherland miniature it appears there may be a long tongue sticking out of the lizard man's maw. Of course, from the photo it is hard to tell if that is a tongue or flashing or a shadow or something else lyimg on the background surface, like a piece of sprue or paint chip. It has been over three years since I have seen that miniture and I really don't remember.

Here is a reverse image of the Sutherland Lizzard Man and there doesn't appear to be any long tongue (although it is a blurry picture too).



Well there you have it, this is indeed one of the very rare TSR Lizzard Man miniatures from 1977 but it definitely has one alteration and may have a missing tongue.

There are only 14 of these out there and counting this one and the Sutherland one already sold that leaves only 12. A rare lizard indeed.

Actually, that is not a crack at the ankle, just a chip off the primer. The crack at the wrists is a gap where the hands are glued on. There are 3 seperate pieces cast for the lizard man: tail, body, and hands. Then there is the axe and shaft.
