Personally I would LOVE if all my competition charged $10 an item shipping. Free enterprise would take over, and I'd be making a bundle when buyers realize I charge half that, plus combine shipping.
shipping charges in his descriptions might indicate with a little research.

I actually had a recent customer of mine in which I combined shipping on a few items comment that he had never had that done before.  All his previous purcheses had never combined shipping 8O

Guys, keep in mind that it appears 99-percent likely that this tired old thread was resurrected by a troll ... see here:

viewtopic.php?p=98290#98290

I'm not saying that shipping practices aren't worthy of debate or that I'm the  Forums Police or anything like that. I bring it up because, once again, this subject is getting heated, and it would be stupid for regular users here to get into another brawl (and perhaps say something they later regret) in a thread that was bumped specifically to serve one troll's purposes.

(Whoops, that link isn't quite right ... follow the link, then hit "page up" once to get the full details on our latest troll)

This isn't that old of a thread really (started September 2007).

What is protocol when one wants to comment on a topic that has been covered already?  Tack your comment onto the end of the last thread that discussed the issue, or start a whole new topic to discuss something that has already been discussed a number of times?  Logic and the Law of Simplicity would dictate the former.

Furthermore, I think it would be tragic if threads older than 1 month old were to be locked or otherwise unable to be responded to, updated or discussed further within their original context.

bonk!

Oh, come on ... that's not the issue here and you know it. There is no Acaeum policy — which I suspect you also know — and threads here get bumped all the time. Hell, I've bumped this one myself at least three times:

viewtopic.php?t=2152&start=0

The issue — the real one — is that we don't need another troll. This particular version was flushed out after bumping numerous threads for no apparent reason ... until a certain thread got knocked onto the second page. Then it became all too apparent.

There's nothing "tragic" here ... old threads aren't suddenly going to start getting locked (seriously, how many threads ever get locked at this site?) ... and this person wasn't "updating" or "discussing" anything. Don't let the troll confuse the issues here.
