Here's a summary thread for those like myself who do not have all the context here:

https://twitter.com/Abstruse/status/1408864843101360130

It does seem that Justin LeNasa (or whomever is running the @TSR_Games Twitter account) doesn't have to sense to sense to simply stop tweeting. He's entitled to his politics but involving the one valuable thing he has (the TSR brand rights), he seems to have shot himself in the foot.

Well, in homage to the good old days at TSR, they're threatening legal action against their potential customers!  How can I invest in this?

Sorry, there is a third option. They could do nothing and just piss thousands of USD up the wall until they run out of money and then manufacture bleeding heart stories about how badly they were treated by vindictive critics with a woke agenda, and how ill equipped they are to manage a company in the real world.

Or option 4: Just don't be dickheads and don't bring their politics into their company PR? Let's not forget it was Ernie who brought it up in the first place.
People who use "woke" as a pejorative are usually the type of people I don't enjoy at my table, or in life.

That sums it up nicely

Was this a coincidental indiscretion, or a strategy?

Thanks for posting, that twitter thread is the most concise summary of this mess I have seen.

Incompetent business from the get go: headliners with a history of failure to deliver products as promised, murky rights issues leading to potential legal challenges, and an absolute PR mess that they keep digging deeper and deeper.

They are trying to appeal to OSR-inclined players, and I think they believe the appeal of OSR game styles over 5E or PFRPG is that they are "non-woke." That is a complete misinterpretation of the OSR on their part, as "wokeness" or "non-wokeness" has nothing to do with the appeal of 70s/80s style RPGs.

So, in a way they may think their response is going to draw in the customers they are looking for. However, "strategy" indicates a level of competence and planning that they have yet to demonstrate.

I would have thought the way to appeal to OSR-inclined players (or all players) is to publish f*cking good products, and I'd have thought at least someone who counsels these muppets would have been able to tell them that. It isn't rocket science! As a potential company with one single purpose - to publish products that are successful under the banner of TSR - they have absolutely no other thing to do.

On the basis that they went all in with the fanfare and controversy straight off the bat, instead of going all in with the products they had ready at launch, tells me they have no confidence in their writing ability, little interest in succeeding in the publishing industry, and place no importance in delivering to the public. This looks very much like a vanity project by few old guys in the twilight of their lives, driven by the fear that they're irrelevant?

You could be right, though what I had in mind was the following:

Grug Greyskin wrote in TSR relaunched?:Incompetent business from the get go: headliners with a history of failure to deliver products as promised,

There has been a pattern over the years of people who cannot deliver on products, & who then begin to loudly espouse unpopular opinions about political/social topics online. If you are an irate customer who posts about your missing order, you risk appearing un-woke by association simply by posting on the same thread.

With that in mind, I would like to take this opportunity to express my undying hatred for the gnomish people. Everyone else on this thread agrees with me. Not my problem if your boss wears a pointy red hat.

For what it's worth, Earnie Gygax recently posted an apology/explanation post on his Facebook page which has been received well by most of the people who commented.   :?

Too much politics and posturing.
Too little product of quality.
Too reminiscent of Ernie's past products and the people who got stung by him before.
Why not go begging to Kickstarter and see how much more money you can fleece from the general muppetry?
Seems his use of the TSR name is being discussed here too...

It's quite a cesspool.

What's going to ever mitigate that disaster?
I don't know.

The internet is a society built by the socially awkward to function as an anonymous death-threat delivery service. Participation is mandatory, so quit complaining.

Not news to anyone here, but it's interesting to see how the press is reporting it.
