I agree, but in the interest of full disclosure, I'm not much of an auction guy.  However, I have heard that the GenCon auction often runs long into the night, or maybe I am thinking of some other auction.  If it's true that the auction runs late into the night, then only selling items that are VG/FN or better (unless it's a super rare item) makes sense.  Even auctioning off items that are usually worth less than $25.00 seems somewhat of a waste of time.  Or, maybe.... there should be two auctions, one for those interested in the rarer, more valuable items and an auction for those seeking deals or something common.  It saves some time and gives more people what they want.  That said, I would guess that GenCon has little interest in staffing and processing two auctions.

GenCon also has an auction store for fixed price items. If sellers would actually give a more detailed description of condition that would fix the issues. Just state play copy would be sufficient. The auction store every year has water damaged shrink D&D and they still allow it to be sold    


Oh, and to stay on topic, I would agree that items with mold should be trashed.

No thanks. The problem is really some of the people who sell items. I understand selling items to offset the cost of the convention, but if you are selling play condition or worse, putting the items in lots would help, or the store for fixed prices. That way it would leave more time for the auctioneers so they aren't rushing through items just to make sure they sell. Rushing hurts both seller and buyer, as items usually go for less, and the buyer may not be happy with the condition. I was sitting by a fellow Acaeum member who's items were sold in the rush and most should have been sold in the collector auction Friday night. All this said I will continue to attend the auction and bid, but I will have to look through the items before I pay and decline to purchase poor condition items.
