Thunderdave,

With your limited time, I would spend a good deal of it on the convention floor. Auctions for old school collectibles usually happen after the convention floor closes (6 pm).

Agreed, pay the auction room a visit anyway but you can do that after 6:00pm

Games can get you through times of no money but money can not get you through times of no games!!

Well, my wife is thinking that she can't go now... so, I may decide to fly out to Gencon instead of driving/camping. Looking at hotels, I'm finding most are booked (surprise!)

I'm wondering: Should I, a) book a hotel cheap at the airport and taxi in and out each day, or b) spend serious cash to be within walking distance of the convention center. Thoughts anyone?

btw, I really don't want to rent a car. I have a hard enough time finding my way to the grocery store without getting lost. ;-)

Bring a tent and camp out near the convention center.

Your options are less attractive if you don't have a car. We usually stay at a hotel a few miles out and drive in/out every day. Some of the savings is absorbed in gas & parking though. It is really convenient to be able to walk to the convention, but as you mentioned, expensive.

Since you are traveling alone, maybe you can find and Acaeum roomate and split the cost to stay close to the convention center?

Well, finally decided to fly out instead of camp. Booked the flight and hotel this morning. I'm hoping to take public transportation (i.e. bus) in to the CC in the am but will need a taxi out at night. The cost of flights and hotel was surprisingly inexpensive.

I look forward to seeing many of you there!

Just a quick word of warning about Gen Con: this year housing is more scarce than ever before. According to the housing bureau there haven't been any cancellations - so if you're on the wait list, don't hold your breath. They're estimating that there may be as many as 55k people.

In any case, if any one who is planning on cancelling their trip and letting go of their hotel room please pm me. I'd love to be able to find a room that's connected to the convention center.

I will be arriving late in Indy Wednesday night and unfortunately will miss the dinner. :-(

I am looking forward to meeting as many of the Acaeum members as possible - I've read that stopping by the OSR booth and hanging out in the auction area will likely connect me to many of you... How am I going to know who's who? :-)

Also, I've registered for a few games but many of them were already booked. Are any Acaeum members going to run any open gaming? I'd love to play if there are openings!

Can't wait to get to my first GenCon!
