Do be careful if you're looking for the US 1st printing rulebook alone.  It looks quite a lot like a UK 3rd/4th printing rulebook.  (Which are nice to haves too, don't get me wrong.)

I heard the 3rd/4th UK prints merely have the Lizlogo, that they are, essentially, the same as the Nov.1978 US versions inside.

I have a 1st print that I frankensteined rather easily  :D

And I have a sixth print, because I wanted one that had chits instead of dice.   :)

These days I'm interested in this last incarnation. It seems to have enjoyed a life on store shelves long after it was obsolete. I don't remember it being replaced by the Moldvay Basic boxes until late 1982. Some advertisers listed Holmes alongside Moldvay Expert, & some Holmes boxes contained 1980s 6-dice sets. Was there such a backlog of unsold Holmes boxes in '81-'82?

They are nearly identical. Both have the F-number instead of 2001 on the cover.  If memory serves and perhaps it does not, the UK printings have a GW fairy logo as well on the copyright page.  I can investigate this weekend as time permits.

PM sent.

As there are 3 members actively trying to get a 1st print into my hands it is only courteasy that I see all your offerings. One or two have booklets only, another a complete box. So it is only fair to wait and see these pics and all other information before deciding what to do.

I can confirm that yes, the UK printings have the fairy logo on the copyright page of the rulebook.  Presumably the US first printing does not, as that would make little sense.  So the rulebooks are not identical.

That is true for the cover. But I was told, or saw somwhere in my research that, 3rd/4th UK prints have the same inside text as the Nov. 78 US prints. If someone could confirm this, I think there are many that would appreciate it.

*edit, again....*
I do not know if there are substantive changes to the internal text, but there is at least that one.
As a side note, the UK 4th copyright page states "2nd Edition", not "2nd printing", suggesting at least that page was based on the US 4th-6th printings.  Which begin Nov. 78 as you stated above.  They are thus different from the US 1st (for collecting purposes, at least, for play these changes are trivial.)

I am currently comparing the UK4th to the following analysis of a US 1st and 8th, and thus far it is closer to the 8th in all respects.
https://sites.google.com/site/zenopusar ... c-rulebook

A keen way to differentiate the US 1st from a UK 3rd/4th may be to look at the outside back cover, which is blank in the US 1st and not in the UK printings.

No longer looking for an F116 booklet copy as I've made arrangements with Ifearyeti.

Thanks to everyone that responded.

Just saw this over on ebay,

** expired/removed eBay auction **

See posts below.
Evidently the seller used a stock photo.
It IS NOT a lizardman logo Holmes!

Caution: The listing says "3rd, 1979" which would indicate a 3rd edition (Dec 1979), which has a Wizard Logo, whereas the photo shows a Lizard Logo rulebook with code 2001, which would be a 1st edition, 2nd or 3rd printing. Either the photo is a stock photo grabbed from somewhere rather than the actual item, or the seller made a mistake in writing the date. I would message for more information before buying. $14.99 is too much for the 3rd printing rulebook alone, particularly if you can't see what it looks like. With a minimal listing like that it's probably worse than described.
