That sticker was produced at about the time the shop was getting ready to move to the old hotel out of the grey house. I had a small stack of them some years ago but have no idea what happened.

I rather doubt the story about Gary sticking it on a box. In the basement.
For one thing, once we moved out of his house, we did not work in any basement; the basement on Williams was storage only. For another, by the time we were making those, Gary was not filling orders, and certainly not in any basement. That's what he had all of us for.

Could the sticker be there for copyright reasons? The figure on horseback is copied from Marvel comics, maybe they complained?

Doubtful.
The whole thing about Gary doing it in a basement simply fits no plausible timeline. The stickers were well after the move.
Others on this site could tell you better than I when that frontspiece was changed out.

A little bit of a knock-down-drag out fight there at the end with one person getting a Tamoachan and one getting a Tsojconth! I foresee first thing in the morning folks cashing out what's left of their 401k's and thinning out their portfolios of stocks and bonds to complete some ebay purchases :lol:

I figured those would go high, but these stunned me ...

very funny Andy, but I came in 2nd on this auction. i would have bid more, but how do we know there isn't another copy of this lurking in some future auction (and perhaps without an address scribbled on the back)? so i limited myself to the hefty instead of the insane....

for the record 1978 was my first Gencon. mom wouldn't let 11 year old me go to the Playboy club in 1977, so i had to wait a year.

Looks like the handiwork of Greg Bell to me. I can't make out the signature either though.

The signature isn't much more readable up close.
