Stickers (including tape), but generally only when they cover something important / interesting. This is highly subjective.

Writing, especially with ink or highlighting. If the item was supposed to have notes, that is one thing, but if you're a random schlep, I don't care that Kobold A has 2 HP left since the last time you played. I also don't give a damn that you thought the succubus needed to be colored with red eyes.

Tearing perforated sheets and not including them.

The smell of smoke.

Bent / warped covers, like someone rolled the item into a tube and left it there.

Water damage.

Chew marks.

I don't consider milder / mold a "peeve" as much as a "give me my money back" thing.

In general, the more desirable the item to me, the more these will matter. I do try to avoid them though.

What about semen?

This week I've been mostly eating . . . The white ones with the little red flecks in them.

Thankfully, that has been a non-issue regarding collecting for me, as no items I have bought has been thus soiled. However, if such were to occur, it would definitely make the "never again; immediate refund" list. And then the book would be burned.

Smell of smoke for me... glad when I see sellers list that something came from smoking household, because then I move on.

I recently bought a 2e complete bard's handbook because it was the only one I didn't have, when I opened the package I nearly lost my dinner. Luckily it only cost me $6 so giving it to half price books didn't hurt so much.

It would depend upon the provenance. A sample from one of the seminal greats might be used to create a DNA database for cloning later. Forget PDFs, we should be thinking about the future. Although one must consider the legal/ethical issues.

Ian, is this a uniquely Scottish issue? Or is that why they are called splatbooks?

I really hate it when someone who is first in line at a stop light, stops to far to the right, preventing a long line of cars behind them from turning right on red...

Just blow the f#@ker away. Or ram into the back of them and push them out into traffic.
This is Car Wars we're talking about, right?

Or it could be real life in Los Angeles.

Colored in pictures. I mean really? I can see it in the D&D Coloring Album, but I don't get why people did it to normal books. I got the coloring album back in the day and I never even colored in it.

Isn't that the biggest giveaway of a bad DM, when your players bring crayons so they colour in pictures during the gaming session?

When I went into a Half Price Books last night, I saw a nice stack of Shadow World stuff in the gaming section.  On initial examination, it was all in pristine, unused condition. However, when I started looking through them, they reeked of smoke. So much so, the edges of all the pages and corners were stained brown....DARK brown.  I shudder to think what the former owner's lungs looked like...
