The only really BAD versions of GW were third and Sword & Sorcery's version. Third at least tried to keep the feel of 1st/2d. Sword & Sorcery didn't even bother.

I just picked up Mutant Future from Goblinoid Games and it looks promising as a modern version of original Gamma World.

Black Blade Publishing imprint of OSRIC is not only the most definitive printing of OSRIC to date, but also the single greatest resource for old school gamers since the three original hardbacks written by E. Gary Gygax.

Despite having it explained to me a million times, I still can't figure why anyone would buy/play a "retroclone" when the real thing is still easily had, and IMO superior to a copy, however closely based it is on the original (and from what I can gather Mutant Future isn't that close to GW). To each his own.

It is easier to get people to play new games rather than old long out-of-print games. It is as simple as that.

If you say so. I don't feel that is the case. I, also, play OSRIC instead of AD&D for the same reason.

Another difference I'm noticing in Pathfinder, from 3.5, is that the spells are toned down a little. You don't really see it unless you're looking for it.

RPG’s, D&D in particular has had a major influence in my life. It’s bonded me together with life long friends...it’s that bond in life not just as friends, but in our jokes, our mannerisms, and what we find funny. Invincible Overlord

What's the main thrust of the changes for spells? IIRC, a lot of the spell durations were shortened from 3.0 to 3.5 (quite reasonably, I think; some of the buff spells lasted for hours   in 3.0). Same sort of thing?

They kept the proper duration of spells from 3.5. It's more of toning down the damage and effects of spells. Some spells now do d6 per level as opposed to d8... A spell like Hero's Feast now only gives you a +4 sv. vs. poison, as opposed to immunity to poison for the duration of the spell... that sort of thing...
