I can tell you that some lines of blisters used horrible glue and some used terrific glue.  Grenadier and Ral Partha usually had pretty good glue for most all their lines.  I suspect, since you can't see glue residue, there's a good chance they came stapled.  Another clue is that all the blisters are stapled.  Chronopia and Warzone blisters had some of the worst glue in my memory.   8)

Thanks for the insight. There are a couple of pictures of unopened blisters linked to at the sight below. These also have price stickers underneath the edge of the plastic. I can't tell for sure from the photos if they are stapled or not:

They don't look stapled.  Also, I have never known Grenadier to staple any of their packs, so maybe they were originally glued.  I'm not really much help here.  :?

Thanks in any case; you guys have increased my knowledge of these, which is not saying much maybe since I had none previously. The sum total of my first-hand lead miniature experience BITD is buying one of the AD&D "Action Art" sets and a blister or two in the early '80s, painting them badly and then giving up. I had no idea there even was a Gamma World line until a couple weeks back, LOL.

I bought some of these blister packs back in the early 80's and I still have the cards.  I can confirm that no glue was used- there are only staple marks on the cards (no glue tears in the ink on the cards).

The price stickers on the cards are indeed from Grenadier.  They always had the price and in smaller print above the price was the stock number (G-##).  I noticed that one of the packs (G-8 ) you photographed has the price marked out with a black pen.  It must have been a rejected, and returned, gift!

To my knowledge the Gamma World minis were produced by Grenadier in 1979.

I would love to see that Yexil better!  If you decide to pry any staples and want any input as to which to open, the Yexil is my pick!   :D

Thanks for the confirmation! I was leaning in the direction of believing the staples were original, but it's nice to get corroboration. It seems a few things changed in miniatures packaging between 1979 and a couple years later. I don't recall ever seeing blisters like this that were not glued on. Kind of doesn't make sense, as staples are by far the more durable solution. I guess they weren't thinking someone would be sitting on unopened packs 30 years later, though   .

Thanks for confirming that, too. There are also a couple blisters with X's on the cards, and one or two with a dash (-) in permanent black marker. Not sure what these indicated.

I would too :). At least there is an illustration of the Yexil in the rulebook, so I know what he's supposed to look like. It's the mutants that aren't illustrated that are most tempting to me, as it would help me to visualize some of the weirder ones. They're kinda hard to see in the packs, some of them.

I've been contemplating opening these at some point in the future. BUT, I'm moving to another state in the next couple of months, and these will travel much better the way they are.

I wouldn't sully these by even attempting to paint them, but I guess I could put them together (does one use glue, what kind?), and I would need to figure out how to display them while still keeping the contents sorted so they can remain together for posterity.

I use superglue to put them together.  It's always worked fine for me, and you can remove the superglue with cheap nail polish remover if you need to.

The Yexil on the cover of the second Gamma World box set (#5006, "Denizens") looks a bit different from the one in the back of the first ed. book.

Here is a picture of the box cover here:

From what I can make out from your photo, the Yexil on the cover of the box set definitely looks like the miniature.  There is no Yexil in the box set.

Since my chances of actually finding that figure are astro-freakin-nomical, I have been thinking about moding an old manticore figure by cutting off the front legs and adding some dragon wings and mandibles from some crappy umber hulk or something.  Problem: I haven't done any mods in the past, so I'm not sure how good it will look when I am done.

Thanks for the picture of the Denizens box; I hadn't been able to locate one. That Yexil must be offended by the fashion (i.e. culinary) sense of that unfortunate group, LOL.

I thought my chances of finding any of them were similarly infinitesimal, but about 2 days after I started searching... voila! I started out pretty strong, but these do seem as rare as hen's teeth. I'm not holding my breath waiting to finish my collection (21 more blisters, the 2nd box set), but that's kind of a good thing. If I can find one or two per year, it keeps me in something to obsess about for the next decade or so :).

If I find any more, you'll be the first to know. 8) But please, god, don't let someone come on here and say they are worth an amount that will make me very sad for what I got for them. After holding a MONO copy of SGT. PEPPER'S LONELY HEARTS CLUB BAND in my hands earlier this month, complete with the uncut cut-out sheet, I don't tihnk I could take much more heartbreak. 8)

I finally succumbed to temptation and opened/assembled the Yexil (G-50). It was just a matter of time; what's the point of having toys you don't "play" with :)?

I'm not just preachin' it, I'm now practicing it too... I've opened 31 of the 32 boosters I have, and all of the figs are now primed! I'll post a pic at some point. It's quite the menagerie.

Now if I could just paint worth a damn.

Hissers, Knights of Genetic Purity, female human adventurers, etc. The "Do-it-Yourself" mutants are in the back (hard to see). I had a blast deciding which heads to use on which bodies, though I was a bit disappointed heads were the only real variable.

Can you match the Gamma World minis with their original fantasy counterparts?  Some of them should look quite familiar, as they are fantasy figures with tech trappings.

:) Absolutely. Some are more obvious than others. Some, in fact, are clearly taken from earlier lines of fantasy minis.

The podogs, for instance, were sculpted in 1977 according to what's inscribed on the bases, and Gamma World wasn't published until '78, so these must have been wargs or the like.

The healers are pretty much just clerics. Some of the villagers, tribesmen, etc. are basically interchangeable with their fantasy counterparts, too.
