Their loss. I have no idea why they kept all this old inventory locked up in the back room. My understanding of a retail store is to sell inventory not hoard it.

nothing too exciting yet..


But I did pick up the Fifth Cycle: Intro Pack.. seems to be the main book plus and intro adventure shrinked together.. don't believe I've seen that before..

I've had similar difficulties at the Days of Knights here, despite having been a customer since the mid-eighties. I've been lucky enough, once or twice, to catch the manager on a slow day and in a good mood, and have been allowed to browse through specific boxes of items like old magazines.

Seems like many game store owners feel like the longer they hold on to this stuff, the better, and they always say they're planning to sort through their old stock "very soon" and make it available. These plans never come to fruition, probably because they're too busy selling M:TG and Pokemon cards in order to stay afloat.

I'm going to over-generalize here...

Many game store owners seem to have no business sense, think material will just sell itself, and they need to be pleasant only to their friends.

Items that people can't see, don't sell.

A grumpy attitude doesn't help sales.

If you're making all your money from [insert whatever here - card games, Warhammer miniatures, vending machines and table fees, etc.], that's fine - put the other material on a sale table and move it out, both to help cash flow and make more room for your main business.


Areas of interest/knowledge: Harn, WFRP, Ars Magica, anything BRP based such as CoC, Runequest, Pendragon and all their related games

Sometimes they (we?  :P ) think that stuff is, fundamentally, useless crap with no value and so there is no time to sort it properly. Or perhaps they (we?) have no more customers interested in this stuff, besides one or two, and so there is no reason to show it unless they (we?) have a lot of space. But in the eBay Age  :P  is very easy to find a lot of interested buyers and so I have problems in understanding that lazy attitude: I could never, ever have a so strong line of boardgames, cards games and RPGs if not for online sales.
