I took six months to show her that "assumption" was simply wrong. Now she is really ticked off about the whole thing. Ironically, her science teacher also believes that man-made global warming is, in general, a complete hoax.

Let's even assume that the Japanese had somehow released the hundreds of thousands of Allied prisoners and war captives they were holding...and our guys just held in place and watched without firing another weapon...The result would have been tragedy on an Asia-wide scale. We're talking deaths in the tens upon tens of millions...a huge proportion of that in Japan alone.People don't study their history. They think they know things, but...oh God...they don't.
bbarsh wrote:My "hoax" message is directed at frauds like Al Gore whose movie and book have been debunked - for the most part. The "hoax" is that global warming is going to wipe out the human race in "x" number of years, New York will be under water by 2020 and other "scientific" paranoia. They have use global warming as a weapon of fear to amass power and money. The worst part about this is that real scientific research into the matter has been "adjusted" to make their points. So is the earth warming or did it warm over the last couple decades? Yes. But is it life-threatening, global catastrophe caused by man? No. That is politics talking. And their solution is for americans to succumb to a liberal agenda based on a belief system disguised as "scientific" fact. Sorry, that is not going to play.Do we have a responsibility to reduce pollution? Yes, and America pollutes less today than it did 20 years ago. Factory emissions in the U.S. are vastly cleaner than they were in the 70s. Car emissions are vastly cleaner than they were at any other time in history. This has come about as we have improved our technology - naturally. Alternatives to fossil fuels are a good thing. But let the market do the research and implementation. Nuke plants are a good thing even though the left has consistently delayed and negated our nuclear energy progam in the U.S. France does a better job than we do. That should insult every american, no offense to our French friends. But jamming in wind and solar farms that are horribly inefficient and economically unbalanced is not a solution. Sure, they might make people "feel" better, but economicaly, they are not productive. Give people time and they will create a better mouse trap. That is what america has always done. But the minute you insert politicians, it all goes to hell.

This sort of thing drives me nuts. The East Anglia papers said as much, as if we "normal" people couldn't be trusted with the actual facts...better to beef them up a bit so we get really worried because otherwise we won't do anything. Wind farms and solar energy are great, but anyone thinking ramping this up will help us get through the next century is insane. As Bill said, even France is far ahead of us in nuclear power research and it's time the US gets back into the nuclear power business. If you look at the situation in California now vis a vis their energy dilemma you'll see they have absolutely zero ways of dealing with it except for asking the government for more money. Currently nuclear power supplies about 20% of the states needs, and after spending countless millions the last few years solar and wind power together supply 1% of the states power needs.Mike B.

Normally doing a search (including title & description) on the keyword "TSR" just in the Games category nets between 20 to 30 pages or so (showing 50 items per page). I ran a quick search using the same parameters as above and I am showing 158 pages! From what it looks like, Troll & Toad has just listed their entire inventory on Ebay. Is it free listing day or something?Kind of annoying. Instead of a couple of pages of MERP listings I get to weed through 8 or 9....all with retarded-ass high BINs.
