Like any of the NFL players in the rest of the country are any smarter.     You would think his editor would correct his spelling and grammar mistakes instead of commenting on his use of LOL's.  Can't wait to read Tony Romo's twitters about how soft and cushy Jessica Simpson's boobs are.  

Maybe it's a secret agenda to boost the population -- after all, Nebraska or whatever had a law where you could abandon your children if you wanted, no questions asked... so, maybe Quebec saw it as a chance to get some of those disgruntled baby-makers up there and then have that civil war they've wanted for the last hundred plus years... yeah, that's it.

Oh, what fun, I missed this one.

As jasonw1239 mentioned,  the Civil Code of Quebec is quite different from other parts of Canada.  Also, Quebec has gone to great lengths to ensure that Quebecers breed lots of new little Quebecers, so their parental rights are quirky at times.  But hey, you get paid the more you breed in Quebec.

This is not Federal law thank god.  

Three sections from the Quebec Civil Code cited in the case:

33.  Every decision concerning a child shall be taken in light of the child's interests and the respect of his rights.

600.  The father and mother exercise parental authority together.

604.  In the case of difficulties relating to the exercise of parental authority, the person having parental authority may refer the matter to the court, which will decide in the interest of the child after fostering the conciliation of the parties.

Though my French is terrible, it boils down to this:  The mother gave permission for the daughter to go on the trip and the father said no.  The daughter was pissed, the mother was pissed, and he father stood pat.  Time to kick daddy and the ex-husband square in the nuts.

The mother, ahem child's lawyer, demonstrated that he daughter was an excellent student, she deserved to go on the trip as an educational reward and experience( s. 33), and though the father stupidly argued that the school trip could be dangerous, the trip was overseen by teachers and school administrators.

So, given the facts of the case and s. 33 and s. 600 together, the father was toast.

The Courts should stay away from this self-indulgent crap.  Oh wait, that's why the QCC has these sections!

In its Monday ruling, the appeal court warned the case should not be seen as an open invitation for children to take legal action every time they're grounded.

Who are they kidding. This is exactly what they have done. I'm sorry, but I am sick of people blasting the U.S. when this shit goes on all over the world.
