Well OK, maybe not quite to that degree, but their rarity/value scale requires serious recalibration nonetheless.

I doubt that Monty Cook's personal pre-publication copy of the 3e Monster Manual with all the additional monster plates would command $500 so a simple misbind on a standard mass-produced 3.5e MM hardback, albeit in nice condition, shouldn't be anywhere near that figure. (Sorry; y'all know that already? ;))

It is a play copy, so what's that worth, $5 or $10?

of course this is coming from the profligate who just $200 on a dinky dungeons knock-off, so perhaps my judgement would be considered impaired in most jurisdictions.

I'm with Jeff but the result was interesting to say the least.

One offer on the resale (visible at £1,000 on the UK ebay site) declined, then "item no longer available"; i.e. "presumably sold off eBay".

I do trust the buyer is satisfied with their purchase given the presumed price (over £1,000/$1,600 for a 3rd print woodgrain) and apparent condition.

For the minty, inverted 3.5e MM?
My 02c is that if they stuck $75 "or best offer" on that, I wouldn't be too surprised if someone who likes such curiosities offered a figure not far off that mark. Maybe even aiming a bit higher, but making the "jump" the would-be purchaser has to make a realistic one.

to the point that David was making that it WOULD sell for more than 5 or 10, i'm sure he is right.
my commentary is that in my opinion a book like this printed backwards is not a collectable, but is merely defective, i.e. worth less than what a correctly printed copy would go for. I'm also sure that Doug was right that 5 or 10 is probably to low for a nice condition play copy.

a few years ago i sold a backwards printed DMG (1979 revised) at gencon. Tim Kask sold it and got the price up to about 150 iirc.
later at the con i also sold an easley covered dmg. without tim selling it the price was about 6. that sounds about right to me.

i had thought that platinum would be a little high ($47/gram as it turns out) so i went with palladium instead ($25/gram). i'll have to weigh in later after the package arrives....
