Now it's $125 or best offer and I'm finding it difficult to resist sending in an offer.  The question is how much protection does ebay offer on "best offer" sales?  I've had friends warn me about them but I'm not sure if they were correct.

Best Offer on Ebay isnt any different than if you had won the item outright.  As long as the "offer" isnt done off of Ebay then you are covered.  If you can't get it for about $75 I wouldnt bother though unless you just really want one and dont have a lot of money.  Actually I thought about it a bit more after looking at the close up pics.  $75 is still too much.

Yeah, my concern was that by showing him something so insanely overpriced (like more than double the highest it has ever sold for in my recollection) he might take your statement of " It isn't worth that much " to mean it is only worth like $4k.  When his auction ends at half that, he might get really bummed & pissed, and always kick himself for not having gotten $4k for it.

That is why I thought it was less than helpful.  


Selling collections does suck.  I sold every last D&D item I owned 5 year ago (including an OB3) to pay off my wife's grad school & car loans so we could move to a new state without that debt (didn't know when we'd find jobs).

In an earlier email I had given him a link to the B3 page here and told him it was worth at least $1500.

About Toad & Troll, When I see one of thier items I always think its worth about a 3rd of what they are asking sometimes less.

I hate to derail this thread into an "what is an OB3 worth", but do you really think an opened OB3 is worth $1500?  The last opened OB3 sale I know about was GenCon last year, and that went for $1100.  I would say a shrinked one is $1500 sure.

Ah, but what a half!  With the added allure of one day receiving the bottom as well once it turns up (and maybe even the well-used books).  Not a crazy price at all, in my opinion.
