Something needs to be clearly understood if you're gonna talk about T&T and the Auction.

Jon Huston owns T&T. The outfit that runs the auction is NOT T&T, it's a separate company. MANY times this year I observed the conflict for Huston; T&T buyers had to pay more for stuff because the Auction's priority (doing our best for our bosses who pay us to peddle their items -- i.e. all the Sellers) came first.

Huston gets out in front and fiddles with product lineup occasionally, but he did NOT set the schedule and only twiddled lineup now and then. Other folks picked what would be sold when (and arguably did an iffy job in some cases, but that's being addressed).

So when some folks who don't have all the facts claim that T&T runs the auction, or stacks the deck, or is playing a win-either-way game, or whatever... they're wrong.

The only real problem I perceived (on this topic) is that Jon seems to be running both, seems to be juggling the auction for his benefit, mostly just because he's visible and known. It's a problem of perception, not of reality, and I'm going to talk with him about that.

You're of course free to refuse to believe me. ::shrug:: But this is the truth.

Sorry Frank,

I mispoke. With all of the T&T signs up at the auction and all of the guys wearing T&T shirts the appearence was there. Never claimed that they stacked the deck just that I thought they had an advantage. Didn't realize it was common ownership of two companies by one individual.

Anyway the perception is definetly that the two are the same.

By the way, does anyone know what the original Tom Wham MM unpublished artwork went for? Was their a photo or scan of it?

I went hard for one piece and lost it at $108. There was another piece that went for $40 or so - do not remember exactly.

Let me add to what Frank said.

At about 6 PM on Sunday, we ran into John downtown and asked him to join us briefly, which he graciously did even though he looked ready to collapse. After I had revived him with some excellent lemonade (really), the three of us discussed the just ended auction.

I believe him when he says that he wants the auction to be first and foremost for the SELLER.

We will be addressing several things having to do with collectibles, schedules, pacing and more efficient ways to realize more money for the sellers.

On a personal note, I also think selling plush germs has no place in the auction, as well as several other things we sell up there. (Btw, you didn't see me up there selling germs, did you?)

Monopoly and the like absolutely belong there with the Family/Board game distinction. We have all played those types of games sometime in our lives--'fess up. And I have made a couple of nifty snags myself in that category.

Look for changes next year. Shoot, if I get my way we'll have music and special effects, and ...oops they're here; coming to take me back to the home...

I have never been to the GenCon auction.

The only time I was at GenCon I was staffing a booth for 95% of the time and I had the stunning sum of $51 in my checking account when the convention started.

Non-game items like cat ears, germ plushies and the like at the auction strike me as a way for a seller to avoid having to get a booth or make an effort at the convention. The seller just brings in her stock and lets the auction staff do her work.

Shouldn't be allowed - direct them to the vendor area.

Hi,

out of interest, is it legal in the USA for one company to put sales thru another companies credit card system?

I know in the UK its illegal, not sure of USA.

Just my CC statement came thru, and all the auction stuff is to Troll and Toad...

It used to be legal, and still is as far as I know. I once at a con ran all sales to Manzakk (publisher of ADVENTURE GAMING) through Ral Partha's account. They did own half of the company, but they were legally seperate entities. Sounds a lot like this case.
