I just placed a reservation on a copy of the Dungeon Masters Guide at my local hobby store. I would have reserved the other two rulebooks, but money is tight these days and I am unsure whether or not I could swing for all three. The hobby store employee was very helpful, and she immediately knew what I was talking about. I am assuming that quite a few customers have already placed reservations for the books being as she mentioned a dedicated computer database just for reservations of the reprints.

As an aside, I personally love the cover treatments WotC have settled on for the reprints. It is an homage to the original covers done with a modern touch. I plan on using the DMG reprint at my gaming table, thereby preserving my original. It is my hope that the reprints encourage lapsed or even new gamers to give 1st Edition a try. It is also my hope that WotC reprints some of the classic adventure modules with or without updated covers, especially some of the rares. Personally, it annoys me that the collector market has made some of the rare items such as the RPGA and tournament modules unobtainable to all but those with deep pockets, many of whom can be found on these forums. For example, unless WotC issues reprints, I know I will never be able to read  Mentzer's original "R" series not to mention such tournament-only modules as Lost Thomoachan.

If it's Esdivium (or a minor distributor ordering from them), there may be a difference between what they think they'll be able to supply, and what they will be able to supply.

I am sure some one could take orders from UK Acaeum members and do a mass shipping. Might be a pain, but at least it could be done so everyone can get what they want and the shipping is reduced. Just and idea.

You might want to do some searching regarding reviews of this company. If I recall correctly, there have been and continue to be issues. I would not buy from this company.

Retailers do this all the time.  They take a slight hit on the retail price to undersell other retailers.  They do more volume, which makes up for the slight hit in profit from a lower price.  

Offering a major item like this in pre-orders for less than the retail price is more the rule than the exception.  It is a typical way to bring in customers to your store or internet site, where they can discover other items you carry.

IIRC in France it is forbidden for cultural items (to apply lower taxes, the RPG are in cultural product category instead of games category) to sell it under the editor price.
