There is long standing confusion here over the difference between an auction and a retail transaction.  Auctions are flakey and in a good market often do "better" than retail, but in a bad one they do "worse".

Most "retailers" don't give a fig about auction prices unless they are bidding in the auction for inventory.  The only real concern for the retailer is what they can reasonably expect to get based on a turn around time that accounts for storage and other business costs.  I sold at least three sets of these sets (without boxes) in the last two months.  And, some buyers are savvy.  Buying them one at a time in three separate book purchases from private people who seldom ship on ebay, could easily go foul and take a long time.  A patient collector... can wait for the best auction price possible.

That's why I think these are selling to gamers and not collectors.  Collectors usually have way too much to have to get in a hurry to buy things that are not rare.  People buying things to "use"... have a different mentality.  They want to get it and put it in use right away.  And, what's $20 or $40... if the shipping is less, the feedback is better, the shipping speed fast and the return policy clear.  Under those circumstances, the retailer is simply getting paid for providing retail service.  On the spot, when you want it, shipped fast and fair.

Even the most inveterate bargain shoppers "stoop" to paying retail from time to time; me included.  It's fun to get a bargain.  It's also nice to have selections available when you are in the mood to splurge.  Auctions serve one purpose.  Retail fixed price sales serve another.  Neither is right, nor wrong.
