I believe we've had this discussion already and both X and a single slash line can be found.  The real question is do you need copies with X, /, and \ for a complete set?  It probably represents different people doing the crossing out.

Yes, they were crossed out then the covers & extra adventure added and reshrunk.

As for market value. the crossed out ones don't seem to add much value (if any) or the market would correct itself by finding a whole lot more with sharpie marks.

Not sure if this is a good value or not, but is $85 a good deal on these three?

Are they all 3+/4th prints?

They're at best 5th prints, more likely 6th.

Hobbits or Halflings?   :)

Doesn't matter. They both scream the same when you light their feet on fire.

I'll have to do some research on past threads on these booklets because I'm just not as familiar with them.

I thought from the main breakdown on the original sets
http://www.acaeum.com/ddindexes/setpages/original.html
that perhaps there was a distinction in the color of the covers on these booklets based on the scans.

For instance, the scan of the cover for the Men & Magic 3+/4th print looks tan, yet the 5th/6th printing looks off-white. I guess the color only has to do with the condition of the booklet and nothing more.

I'm guessing the off-white of the scans on the page is a result of the scan itself being washed out. I have access to 3 sets of 6th prints, and two books of a 5th, and they are all more tan than what is shown, but one of the 6ths is darker than the others. By the looks of things, slightly different stock possibly. And it has a much greater coverage of inks than the others.

There is also a 7th print, do a search on these forums and you'll see it talked about.

My Dragon # 1 in very good to fine condition sold for $178.51.

My Dragon # 2 in fine condition sold for $118.13.

So while the #1 price is a tad high, the #2 price is not that far off.  Of course, maybe I had good luck. :)

I wouldn't say it was high at all... though my grading might have been very good vs fine... so the price is right for VG, and a bit low for F...

Is the 2nd Ed. Character Archaic worth this much?

** expired/removed eBay auction **

It is rare - much more common (relatively!) is the red version.  Still, seems high...

No.
It might be the scan, but the cardstock cover on his Dragonlord doesn't look right. It should be grayer, and quite thick.

He left. Don't quite remember the circumstances or validity of it, but as I recall he was branded a thief and/or a fraudster from some quarter or other, and has never been back since.

This week I've been mostly eating . . . The white ones with the little red flecks in them.
