For that matter, I've always wondered about the character named "Rowling" in the Sandman Comics, who resembles Harry Potter. Or The Books of Magic series.

Bah, I'll bet they understood plenty.  Odds are decent at least one of each of our parents is a geek and they just don't want you to know.  (My dad was cool enough sit down and roll up a couple characters with us -- at least until we became teenagers and it was no longer cool to hang out with him.  I think he hit at least 6th level.)

Google staff just got screwed by the Italian Judicial system for having a video on their website of some kids abusing another (non sexual, just verbal taunting etc.)

Perhaps the easy way for Google to resolve the problem would be to just completely block all italian ISPs from accessing it's services and create a little IT getto in the European backwater. That would solve the problem real quick as Italy resorts to Mapquest and Yahoo and their entire news network nolonger have access to quick and easy information.

It would also be an interesting experiment to fnd out just how much power a company can have, and how much of a necessity Google really is.

The Italian legal system is a laugh. The level of corruption at all levels of law and government is among the worst in the world. Not quite darkest Africa, but deffinately Europe's deep south. I'm in no way a supporter of Google, but the Italian Mafioso or Judiciary (whatever they're called), seem to not even be willing to uphold their own laws, let alone police their own country's citizens.

It'll be a laugh watching this little fight unfold.
