A small obituary for Gary appeared in the March/April issue of Game Master Magazine (an Italian language periodical). Next issue should publish a far longer article covering not only Gary's career and - sadly - misfortunes but pointing to Gary's influence in the book and videogames industries. More, the Italian RPG community involved in the GdRItalia web site is planning some kind of tribute to him during Lucca Games 2008 (thinking about playing a part of The Keep on the Borderlands, one of the very first D&D products ever translated into Italian and the seminal module for many, many Italian fans!).

The recent release of Crusader has some words by Steve Chenault, Jim Ward, and Frank Mentzer on Gary. Nicely done.

Alexander, did this happen at the website mentioned?

During the convention there was a series of tournaments with Classic D&D and AD&D games and demos of Cyborg Commando (albeit it's not a Gary Gygax game per se) and Dangerous Journeys. The very best idea the organizers had (in my eyes)  was creating a couple of Walls where fans could pay their respects and telling 'thanks' to Gary (there were four panels with an overview of Gary's career too). I was really, really moved  PDT_Armataz_01_09 . A couple I still remember: "I lost hundreds of hours of sleep: thanks!" and "Your dreams made ours possible" (this one from a group of people having just published their RPG). I was told that the organizers will keep the Walls, albeit so far I don't know where. I did a lot pf photos and as soon as I have them prepared, I'll give a link. There were a couple of seminars too for remembering Gary, one with the Hickmans (GoH at the convention) and another one with Larry Elmore (that wrote the first tribute to Gary on the Walls).

(by the way I was offered to write the text for the four panels and I turned it down so after reading all those tributes I felt really idiot and deep regret... sigh...).

Italy still loves you Gary.  PDT_Armataz_01_37

Four years ago, today.  Worth at least a moment of reflection for the man who made all of this possible.   :salut:

Thanks for the reminder. It had slipped my mind; it's a "birthday month" in our family.

We played a little Adventurer (the card game) in honor.
