Actually what I think is that the data can be interperated so many ways, what data is used etc.. what is considered "facts" etc.. Its not agrued that humans have caused major changes in the environment, what is argued is what those outcome will be and how negative they will be and over what sort of time period.. answers that I'm afraid can't be analysed until sometime after the fact...

(I did an Economics degree some years back and one of my lecturers had a saying.. "Economics can predict the past 50% of the time".. with all the data different versions of how the economy works on a global or national scale can be predicted generally some of the time.. all the explaniations of how the economy works are all right and wrong some of the time for all of them, no one theory can explain everything that HAS happened let alone what WILL happen.. this is the same with the global warming but with even more variables...)

This is kind of the point, no?

It's really not "very simple" despite what some  folks on each side of the debate want you to believe.

I actually agree whole heartedly with you here.  At this point, no one knows for sure, nor is anyone anywhere close as of yet.  That of course is part of the issue at hand though since a lot of the people on the side of "it's happening" say that catastrophy might not be far off if they're right.  It's pretty much catch 22.

Unfortunaly yes this is pretty much it.. I'm of the opinion of "Preparing for the worst while hoping for the best" ... Unfortunatly I think we are "Maybe thinking about preparing for maybe something that probaly will happen but we don't really want to think about it or really do anything about as it will affect me negatively and its just easier to go along and think its all OK while also thinking is not..."

In the grand scheme of things the entire history of human life is just a blip in the history of this planet, if things go to "unbalanced" then there WILL be a correction, it may be sharp and painful, it may be slow and painful and we as a race may or not survive, I unfortunaly won't be around to see what actually happens in the end all I can hope for is that we do survive and get off this rock.. I would hate for this to have all been for nothing...

Research HAS been going on for decades. I've been following it for 2/3 of my life. All that aside, common sense dictates that releasing more greenhouse gases than are naturally reclaimable into the atmosphere produces, yep, you guessed it, a GREENHOUSE EFFECT.
Go do some research on what will happen when permafrosts start thawing.

Well, first the other nations racing for industrilization such as China, India and Russia who each want to replace or even destroy the USA as an economic and military power.

Within the USA the democrats who are using it to push their political power grab and bread and circuses social agenda.

The far left within the USA and in the international community who are using it to push an anti-capitalist agenda.

The industrialists who will profit from a global warming fear to sell their goods. (Al Gore anyone?)

The actual people concerned about global warming are dupes for the most part because the main concern of people in power is retaining and growing their power and they could give F all for environmental concerns, but are smart enough to use a any political or social movement for their own ends.

If, and I am highly doubtful that industry is affecting the climate in any meaningful way, if global warming is man made, then head for northern high ground, because you can kiss that permafrost goodbye. World wide industry is just in its infancy, wait till an industrial base gets its teeth into Africa and South America.

All the dirt eating, tree hugging hippy dippy modern day druids are going to be ground under by Chinese made earth movers in the next decade and used to grit the road for traction, no matter how suicidal the USA becomes.

So, take over Canada now. We get better beer and the Canadians get a health care system that actually functions.

Our Health care system is functioning adequately, and has done for some time.

Americans tend to forget that if one wishes to pay for a higher level of  health care in Canada, or your company covers it, you have more options at your disposal.

Health insurance companies flourish quite well here.

The wealthy still get better, faster, more expansive services, as the wealthy always have and always will.

Oh yes...you can take my liberty, take my country, but leave our beer alone! :)

All the best,

Paul

I could care less what the Democraps try to use as an excuse for pushing green energy. It should have been pushed decades ago.
Again, common sense. Anyone want to expound on what they think happens to the billions of tons of emissions? Do the Emissions Fairies fly around in the atmosphere and eat it all up?
Common sense.

I am not sure what you mean by "better."

The American spirit is alive and well. But we tend to do things our way, the american way. That, in general, pissess off the rest of the world. Americans, and american corporations, will, and do, address environmental concerms. All in good time. What you have to understand is that we are continually accused of being a scourge on the planet, meddling, polluters, yadda yadda. I really could care less. I will not apologize for being american or apologize for our success and advancements and standard of living. Our current president will continue on his great apology tour so everyone will love us again. Ha.
Eventually, america will lead the way in energy solutions. But it will be on our terms and in our time frame. And that just pissess people off.

Common sense.

Common sense says that it takes a vast amount of energy to effect the climate. Have man made energy releases even begun to release the level of energy to effect climate change in any meaningful way?

How much energy is constantly being generated by solar radiation? Did the level of pollutants in the atmosphere lower that amount of radiation? Is clean air causing global warming?

Global warming has nothing to do with increased energy output from the sun, nor "energy releases" -- man-made or otherwise.  That's not how the greenhouse effect works.  Here's a quick primer on how it does work.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greenhouse_effect

There are still people out there that just don't "believe in" the greenhouse effect or think it can be a problem.  Well, those people are flat-out incorrect.  We know what happens when the greenhouse effect kicks into overdrive, it's observable.  Venus, the planet most similar to our own, has this condition.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atmosphere_of_Venus

The greenhouse effect is real, it's definitely a problem if that effect increases, and it's well-known what will increase that effect.

Wikipedia, what a wonderful source for accurate scientific information.

The global warming theory may or may not be true, but if it is, then it is coming regardless of what the USA chooses to do or not do. The rest of the world is industrializing, the growth of industry will be exponential. If industry means the world is going to get warmer then it is going to get warmer and very very quickly, so plan accordingly, there is nothing the green movement or whatever they call themselves are going to be able to do about it. The Chinese are very practical, green movement - soylent green movement very likely,  the russians will happily send people off to farm siberia and the Indians, well I think the Indians and Pakistanis are going to nuke each other to oblivion one of these days  but maybe the will force any greenies to watch cricket.

The USA needs to industrialize again, and take over Canada.

  The following is an example of how politics is conducted in my province in Canada.

You actually piqued my curiosity on this one, so I looked into it.

Dr. Wakefield never stated that the MMR vaccines caused autism. The studies initiated were to determine if factors were present to warrant further research. That's all. Given his findings, he recommended suspending the MMR in favor of the single shots until further study could be conducted.

A journalist named Brian Deer made the initial allegation that Dr. Wakefield had linked the MMR to autism, an allegation that the mainstream media picked up like a pack of rabid dogs.

Mr. Deer was the complaintant to the GMC, and then followed the progress in his own articles. But it gets better. He was given the task by Paul Nuki, features editor for the paper which Mr. Deer wrote the articles. Mr. Nuki's father, George, was on the Committee for Safety in Medicines which passed the MMR for use in the UK.

Mr. Deer works under the auspices of papers owned by James Murdoch (Rupert's son). James was just recently brought onto the Board of GlaxoSmithKline, a manufacturer of MMR vaccines.

But wait, there's more. The judge in the case, Nigel Davis, is the brother of GSK board director Sir Crispin Davis, who was also CEO of the Lancet, where Dr. Wakefield's findings were first published.

Yes, money was at the heart of this debacle methinks. The money GSK lost when Dr. Wakefield recommended suspending the MMR in favor if single shots until studies to determine safety could be undertaken.

Free and independent press my hind end. Do we really think this stuff doesn't happen in other arenas as well? Like say, global warming? (only 'cause that's a... *ahem* 'hot topic' at the moment)

Exactly, it just proves my point. Money on both sides drove the decision, not common sense or science. Wakefield was compromised from the word go by the fact he was working on his own vaccine, and that he was mixed up in a bogus lawsuit against GMC.  Whether or not there was an ulterior motive in the reporting, the fact remains that vaccines do NOT cause autism, proven time and again by medical science, which has led to an idiotic decison not to vaccinate by many parents, and causes diseases previously on the road to extinction to not only make a comeback but to become STRONGER strains as a result.  Wakefield may have led to the deaths of more kids than we'll ever know.

I find the fact that Wakefield is now employed by an autism center (in Austin, TX of all places) particularly damning.  Whether or not he stated it, the implication is pretty clear.

Anyway just one instance where bogus research and subsequent hysterical reporting was allowed to run wild, causing a mess.
