There was a dodgy Ebay sale of an OD&D set and various other items on the Class 4&5 rares page which had an image saying "please do not bid on this item - I want to sell it through my email" and an email address. Not seen anything so blatant before! I meant to post a note about it here but by the time I got time to do it the item had vanished off Ebay and also off that thread.

There are quite a few of those posts for D&D rarities that keep on popping up on eBay.  They are listed on hacked eBay accounts, most likely by bots.

When they show up on The Acaeum, they are generally reported quickly by members.  eBay does a pretty good job of removing them quickly, if they are reported.

Lol. The guy’s got hundreds of things up, from silver service to CNC machines to long wheelbase trucks, all for $1 and all saying he’ll delete any bids. If we all bid on his stuff at $1 he’ll spend hours or days detecting all the bids and trying, and can he ban a bidder from bidding on his stuff? Would a sustained constant campaign of bidding a dollar and seeing if he’ll sell and ship stuff to us not just cause him so much work that he’ll just cease and desist?

This week I've been mostly eating . . . The white ones with the little red flecks in them.

I dont understand it, but this guy lists the same massive amount of top tier items from different accounts with great feedback often. Its it hacked accounts maybe?

Yes, these are hacked accounts with bots likely posting the same fake auctions.

So why doesn’t eBay just delete the accounts?

In a lot of cases they're legitimate accounts from long-term sellers.  It's just that their accounts are getting hacked and the scam auctions listed.  In some case the accounts have been inactive for a while, so the seller would likely not even know what has happened for a while, if ever.  In other cases, the eBay accounts are active sellers.  I'm sure that eBay would notify them about the listings, if they didn't catch them first.  I wouldn't be surprised if eBay also at least locks the account to prevent it from being used for fraudulent purposes.

The S2 price surprised me.  I wasn’t expecting it to go that high and was outbid as well.  :(

It was listed as UK only post, so that excluded a lot of potential bidders.  That resulted in a decent purchase for someone.

Plus the wheel was cracked, which considering how rarely they were used (personal opinion!!) was unfortunate. :)

Good points. :)  I missed that comment in the description.  The crack isn't obvious, and one wouldn't know unless they read the description.  I've looked at the pics several times and can't see it.  There are a couple of lines, but they don't appear to be cracks.  There might be a slight chip on the outer edge.

Regardless, that could have scared off some people.
