Three of the last four RPGs I played didn't have a DM at all (or as some would say - we had 6 DMs contributing to the storyline and challenges).  But I get your point - and do agree. There are many patrons of RPGG that barely know BGG exists - it's intended to be a separate subdomain - our own forums, our own database, our own geeklists and our own ruleset.  We've got some of the greatest people on the site - our Holiday RPG exchange this year was fantastic and all the trades/sales have gone really smoothly and we have been accomodating to every new user that comes on board. I don't think we've had any pissing matches on the forums - and I am still at the point where I can read every post that comes to the site (though it's getting harder as traffic picks up). I also try to contribute to the site (just came back from Borders and posted the contents of the 3 shelves of RPG products to give an idea of what a typical Borders is like in the Boston area for our hobby). It's hard to imagine a better group of people (and having some of the better Acaeum members really helps, IMO).

Reminds me of a story I heard once.

A preacher just finished his new church house and it was time to hold sevice and give his first sermon.  Sunday morning came, and a lone cowboy took his spurs off, removed his hat, and found his seat on the front row.  He and the preacher looked at each other, both a little awkwardly, as it was time for the service to begin and they were the only ones in attendance.  The preacher was a little perplexed at the lack of support for his new church house and wondered what he should do.

He came down to talk to the cowboy... and said "Cowboy, I'm a little embarrassed. I'm all ready for my sermon but you're the only one that has shown up. Not sure what I should do!".

The Cowboy smiled and replied, "well, I'm not a preacher... I'm just a simple cowboy but I know that if I went out to feed the cattle and only one showed up, I'd still feed 'em".

The preacher laughed and said, "gosh darn, you're right!" and he set upon delivering his sermon to the lone man.

He preached powerfully and with passion.  He talked of heaven and hell and goodness and damnation.  He preached for over an hour and the cowboy listened intently with his hat in hand.  He became fidgety and a little uncomfortable as the preacher pounded the podium with his hellfire and damnation speech, staring him down and sometimes pointing a finger right at him.

When it was over, the preacher came down from the stand and asked the lone Cowboy "How was it—-how did I do?"  He responded, "Well preacher, I still know nuthin bout preachin, all I know is cattle.  And if one showed up for feeding, I'd sure feed him, but I wouldn't dump the whole load on him".

I bought one in error.  I went on a 12 year crusade (<-- Malc!) after that mistake to help design a site that would prevent future disasters (actually, I just re-bought the right one a week later).

Cmon man we're all evangelists of one sort or another.

Personally I wouldn't trust anyone supporting a cause who soft-pedals it or doesn't talk it up...if THEY aren't excited about it, why should I be?
