Looks a bit too typical of Hollywood for my tastes.

Regarding the new guy playing Solo: If his portrayal fails despite the movie succeeding (as I suspect) he could always be the star of a Jason of Star Command movie.

I'll bet Jimmy Doohan was happy to ditch this for "Star Trek : The Motion Picture"

Which depicts children's literature exactly the way I saw it - bizarre beyond belief, & loaded with the psychological baggage of the author.

A variant on the Elric boardgame, 1981 Chaosium version. It's meant, as published, to be played as a strategic-level game like Risk, Axis & Allies, or TSR's Lankhmar, but has pieces similar to cardboard-counter wargames. Except bigger, & easier for my old eyes to see & my aging hands to pick up.

It can be adapted to play like a tactical-level wargame by ignoring all rules but those for movement, combat, & turn-sequence. Ignore the movement rules for terrain, water, & armies outside their home provinces. The players choose armies & personalities with an equal number of combat points. Choose nations that are geographically contiguous, & located on opposite ends of the board.

Victory condition 1 - Be the first player to move a piece off the opposite end of the board. Or, Victory condition 2 - Choose a province near the center of the board (such as Melnibone), & a number of rounds of turns. The player in sole occupation of the province at the end of the last round wins. If no player is, the condition applies to the end of each subsequent round.

For a Stormbringer-sized, world-destruction game, divide the armies & personalities by nations A-J (including Independents), and K-V. Remove nine combat points worth (including four personalities) of pieces from A-J to make it equal. (This is based on my quick & probably somewhat incorrect count.) Place the pieces on opposite ends of the board. Listening to World Destruction by Afrika Bambaataa & John Lydon repeatedly for the duration of the game is to be considered optional. Since the nuclear war they predicted would be brought on by the Reagan-Thatcher era never took place, the song makes a lot more sense as a soundtrack to Moorcock's novel.

I was under the impression that LA had been slated for computer game treatment, but never materialized for some reason I can't recall. Mayhaps this is the material the article is referencing.

I guess that's possible but I assumed from these two quotes gleaned from the article detailed below in italics, that Alex was referring to Castle Greyhawk and the rest of Gygax's Campaign World.

"One of the major ones that everyone knows about is his personal dungeon," Alex said. "It was his personal D&D campaign that he had never released to the public...

More than anything, Alex said that he's excited to find his father's original work a new home in the future of digital role-playing games.

When the article says Gygax had always planned to make it computerized, does that mean he intended it all the way back in the '70s? I have got the impression that many authors of early RPGs and wargames of that era imagined their creations on computers, but the technology wasn't there yet. There's even an article in TSR's Little Wars where the game designer says as much. Though in the modern world of computers everywhere, my reaction is the same - Hmmph.

Clarification Please!!!

I had assumed that Castle Greyhawk was both Gary's and Rob's?

RPG’s, D&D in particular has had a major influence in my life. It’s bonded me together with life long friends...it’s that bond in life not just as friends, but in our jokes, our mannerisms, and what we find funny. Invincible Overlord

I'm not the historian for this group (obviously) but I always assumed Greyhawk was Gygax's creation with some of Kuntz's work incorporated into it. Things, some of which, that Kuntz released already like The Original Living Room.

It's very fortunate that they have maintained a good relationship (I assume) over the years, since it would be very difficult to prove who's idea belonged to whom over the entire bulk of the Campaign World.

I wasn't aware of this until now, but looks like Kuntz is selling a lot (or all?) of access to his work on Gygax's Original Campaign.

I went to see the movie Infinity War today, and I'm glad I saw it.  This is different from, "and I liked it."  There are some great action scenes, and the acting is good enough.  There are some funny lines and clever conversations.  There are tons of CGI and special effects.  Special effects used to be special, but not so much any more.  The special scenes now are those with no special effects...but I digress.  The plot is the problem...or the issue.  For one thing, this movie is part one of a two part movie.  Therefore, there is no satisfying end.  Second, the plot goes all over the place and all over space...and time.  I can see where it's possible this all ends with a satisfying conclusion, but it'll take some work.  And while the plot journeys all over the place, it wasn't too hard keeping track of what was going on.  I am fairly confident that Marvel fans will like this more than casual movie watchers.  If you haven't watched many of the Marvel movies, you'll miss some inside jokes and on-going plot lines.  You may want to catch up and at least watch Guardians of the Galaxy, Avengers I & II, and Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

I did not see this in IMAX or 3D.  There is one bonus scene at the end, and it's worth seeing.  The theater was fairly crowded for a 2:50 PM showing today.  It's a fairly long movie at over 2 1/2 hours, so empty your bladder beforehand.   8O  Overall, it's an interesting entry in the Marvel saga and worth seeing at the theater.  8)

Truth is worth finding and life is too short to work for money.
