I hope the movie turns out to be good as well.  I was surprised at the intensity of criticism against the recent Star Wars movies (I'm not just talking about The Last Jedi.).  There are people in the world who take these movies way too seriously and analyze them to death.  They go on an on about this person's feelings and that costume and what about this thing or that thing.  Blah, blah, blah.  Yes, there were little things I didn't like about all these recent releases, but who lives in a fantasy world........?     O.K. They live in a galaxy far, far away, and I live in Greyhawk.  To each his or her own.   Carry on.  This is not the topic you were looking for.

I almost hate to remark here because it's amazing how people can just go off about anything Star Wars, but I'll also limit my blah, blah, blahs to, there were lots of problems with the movie.  I am hoping the next one is better.

I went to see the movie The Black Panther today and liked it.  There are some decent action scenes, and the acting is good enough.  It's a Marvel movie, but it feels more like an origin and set-up story than a good hero vs. an evil bad guy movie, although it has that too.  I know the movie has received lots of positive reviews, but my own experiences growing up in Africa definitely impacted my perceptions.  While there are lots of "Africas," and my experiences narrow in scope, the presentation seemed highly manufactured.  I mean, why have a spear blaster when you can just have a blaster?  Or if you are a high-tech society, why have only bongo drum music?  Or why even create a rhino cavalry when you can create a mechanical cavalry?  I am not saying that all advanced societies have to look Western, but with the origin story they present, the high-tech advances seem overly contrived.  Maybe I should just relax and say it's a comic book movie.

This is a movie made for the big screen with lots of special effects.  I saw it in IMAX but not in 3D.  There are two bonus scenes and one of them has an interesting quote that goes something like, "Wise men build bridges but fools build walls."    I wonder what that was about?    There was an interesting preview for a movie about Venom, I believe.  The theater was fairly crowded for an IMAX showing starting at 12:30 PM today.

Overall, it's a solid entry in the Marvel saga and worth seeing at the theater.

Your quote from the movie might even be intended to have dual meaning, not many would hear that and not think of a certain President. Explains much about the negativity I've been seeing by people that usually would care less about a Comic Book Movie.

Last night I'm sitting at the dinner table with Daughter Cooper helping her with homework and she asked me to teach her how to play D&D.  She had been asking off and on for a while but up to now I wasn't sure if she was mature enough to grasp the game yet.

But this time I said "sure!"  and dug out my copy of "Ghost of Lion Castle", handed her a 2nd Level Elf and some dice and off we went.  

The first go round she got crushed by boulders in the gatehouse.  But after that she got the hang of it quick and got pretty far into the castle before bedtime.  She fought and defeated a Bugbear (easily) and an Ogre (barely) and had a great time.  She really enjoyed it and didn't want to stop playing.

I've been waiting 10 years for this...
