My advice.....get yourself one of these:  http://www.amazon.com/SVAT-ISC200-Imita ... B0002VO8GE
Then get one of these:  http://www.mysecuritysign.com/Video-Sur ... emeid=4744
One of these would help as well:  http://www.nles.com/store/customer/prod ... uctid=1227
Get a mailbox like this:  http://doitbest.com/Main.aspx?PageID=64 ... n=DATAFEED

And either keep your porch light on at night or get one of those spotlights with a motion detector so when assholes like that come around the light comes on automatically regardless if you are home or not.

Do you own a BB or Pellet gun? Light their ass up with it. What are they gonna do, call the cops?

Is it within throwing distance. Keep some baseball-size rocks handy and heave away.

Odds are they arent 15 or 16 year old kids just out goofing around.  Most likely they are twenty-something year old rednecks out screwing around after some binge drinking.  Odds are throwing rocks or shooting at them with a BB or pellet gun would probably just piss 'em off and next thing you know they are setting fire to your yard or throwing bricks through your window.

Fake video cameras are cheap and it is impossible to tell the difference between them and the real deal unless you go right up to it and look.  If they think that you have their faces and/or license plates on video they will most likely stop messing with you and move on to a different house.

It wouldnt hurt to call the local police and let them know that there is vandalism going on in your area.  They might just send a cruiser along during the day or night that the problem is occurring to see if they can help deter the problem.  Call your post office as well.  They will get involved with the sheriff's department if they have received complaints from other people in your area.  You never know, if it is bad enough they might just sic the FBI on them.  :)

And last but certainly not least, vandalism of a mailbox is a federal crime and can lead to some severe punishment.  You would think that spending three years in prison and up to a $250,000 fine would be enough to keep people from messing with the mail but some people are just plain stupid.  There are labels that you can get from the post office to affix to your mailbox that state what the punishments are for mailbox vandalism.  It can't hurt.

And that's why a discharging a real gun is either a good idea or a very, very bad idea.  I think I'll stick with gluing my mailbox back on and having a shotgun as backup in case they want to do more than beat my mailbox.

I have two visible mice remaining in the house.  Last night I used a moustrap to kill a third.  :(

One (or both) enjoys running across my feet and has expanded to scaling my computer area and climbing through the Sega CD games next to my TV.

They appear to be competing for the living space behind my bookshelves.  One runs in, one runs out.  And I did see one chasing the other earlier.

How long until they start looking greedily at my shelves of paper?  And how many more are hiding?  Will I need to trap or poison all of them?

Yikes!  Mice are bad news.  I had some problems with mice quite a few years back.  They got into some boxes in my garage and used several paperbacks to build a nest.  Once I got rid of them I had to throw away just about everything in the box due to the smell.

They breed faster than rabbits so odds are if they have been around for awhile there are sure to be babies somewhere nearby.  If they are coming in your house you must have an opening somewhere.  Find it and plug it up.  Poison seems to work best from my few run-ins with the vermin.  Traditional traps work well but you have to check them daily.  Best to use peanut butter with them instead of cheese.  Whatever you do dont use the glue boards.  You want to kill the mice, not torture them.  Or you could get a cat or small dog to hunt the bastards.  :D

I have also read that mice dislike the smell of mint.  Maybe there is some kind of mint smelling spray or liquid you can spread around your house to prevent more of them from getting in.  Then in the spring you can plant some around your house.  Badmike has plenty of it...just get it from him.

Between this and the mailbox killing morons, your life is becoming a bad 30-minute comedy..... 8O

There are two mice?  They are screwing and making MICE BABIES.  Do something now before your collection is used as mice-diapers by the daddy and mommy mouse.

Poison or traps work well...I'm with King, don't use the glue traps, that's sick.  A nice, sharp, solid whack to the neck works good....

Coca-Cola makes more good poison.  Really.  The acid is too strong for their stomachs but they drink it anyway because of the sugar.

I'd go with an all out attack with poison, traps, pointy sticks, whatever.  Mice are bad news.

And when you kill one, hang it from your mailbox...as a warning to all other mice.

O.K.  Let's see who gets closest to tonight's score in the "National Championship."

Zero points overall if your picked winning team loses.
Ten points if you guess the correct score per team and one less point for each point you are off in either direction.

For example; if your vote is Oklahoma 38-21 and the actual score is Oklahoma 31-Florida 24 then you get 3 + 7 = 10 points.  You are seven points away from the correct Oklahoma score and three points away from the correct Florida score.  Seven from ten equals three and three from ten equals seven.

Another example; if your vote is Oklahoma 38-21 and the actual score is Oklahoma 38 and Florida 41 you get zero points.  So, picking the winning team is paramount.

My vote?  Florida 31-17 8)

Aspartame. That's the killer ingredient. No sugar involved.

On to traps. I had a couple of field mice in my house last year. Found a simple home made trap on the web. You'll need a box, or something tall enough that they can't jump out. Make a ramp out of something they can walk on, like an old 2x4, and place one end over the box. Take a cardboard tube from a roll of toilet paper, and flatten one 'side' so it doesn't roll around. Place it on the edge of the board over the box, overhanging it, and put the bait (I used cheese) at the edge of the roll over the box. When the mouse crawls through the roll to get the cheese, it's weight will tip the tube over, and into the box. Dispose of as you wish.

And by all means, plug the entrance hole to the house.

Actually, in America Coca Cola is made with high fructose corn syrup, sugar most everywhere else (much better IMO). Aspartame is in the diet stuff, I guess, and somehow I doubt even mice have taste that bad :).

Also, I used to breed mice for feeding to my various reptiles (which I no longer own, thankfully, it was a mess), and I have never once known a mouse to eat cheese despite repeated attempts on my part. Not sure how the folk wisdom started that their favorite food is cheese, but it ain't so. Well done steak, however, is a treat they will never pass up. Rats, on the other hand, love cheese (and steak too). Go figure.

I now live in a semi-rural area, and the field mouse invasion is an annual autumn challenge. I've found that the most effective amateur method of elimination is those big glue traps. Just place them on the floor along the bases of walls (they like to stick close to walls when traveling), and wait for the squealing. Surprisingly, the squealing seems to bring other mice to the same trap(s) to investigate, so it's most effective if you leave them there for a day or so after they're captured.

Drawbacks: 1) If you have cats or dogs, count on them stepping in the traps and waking you up in the middle of the night thinking there is a very inept burglary in progress; 2) Not very humane, as it guarantees a slow death for the mice, but if you're really worried about it the glue can be dissolved with alcohol, which is a good method for extricating your pets as well :).

Too much information, I'm sure...

Also known to do the same for bad memories, regrets, etc.  And, much the same with your glue traps, much more effective than prayer, I would think.

Years ago I had a problem with a couple of mice near my pantry. I dropped a couple of simple mousetraps with peanut butter and bacon. The one trap split the mouse in half, and the other one was captured... and disposed of...

They got in after a heavy snow, where the snow built up a ramp near my clothes dryer vent...

Hi,

mice are supposed to be really fond of chocolate.

I'm not entirely sure if this means that :

a) you can bait traps with it
or
b) you feed it to them, they get really fat, and then you can catch them easier

Cheers,
Malc

Speaking of mice in glue traps, I won't be eating at Pizza Hut anytime soon.
