BTW that factcheck story on Thompson is one of the funniest things I have ever read.....pretty sobering stuff for anyone trusting anything the so called "free" press ever states. My favorite line is:

Now THERE"S a man with his hand on the pulse of Washington DC!    That would be like me filing stories on the inner workings of the Dallas city council while living comfortably in downtown Cross Plains, TX (the birthplace of Robert E. Howard and probably about as big as Floyd).

Capital Hill Blue is a fun site, but not to be trusted....

This is the event i am doing this year.... which is why i can't go to GenCon....

The 10th Kalahari Augrabies Extreme Marathon... which is basically ran in the same format as is the Marathon Des Sables, but this one takes place in South Africa (for those who are not so geographically minded)...

I went for my Tetanus injection the other day (part of the race requirement) and have to have a full medical and hand the forms over by 1st September, then we are good to go for the end of september, when i leave for SA.

The race itself starts on 4th October 2009, i think (from memory)....whats going to be involved this time round and i dont doubt it one bit...is lots of pain...pure and simple

but i will do it...and then that might be it. all depending on a friend of mine, whether i do 1 more event after this, so who knows.

pretty excited about things though. should be a fantastic experience.

Gone for almost a year.  Logging on to say I am alive.

Probably should have found a more dramatic post for #4000, but I decided to just give it a miss.

Still collecting, although not at the rabid pace of a couple years ago.

Free RPG Day was a disappointment.  Not free.  Probably not going back into my FLGS.  

You had me going there for a minute, Badmike, when you mentioned living in Cross Plains....thought for a second it was true.  (Probably should have remembered better than that.  A detail like Cross Plains would have stuck in my mind long before.  I would have been bugging you with all kinds of questions.)

Good thing I don't have a local homeowners association.  My lawnmower is broken and I'm waiting for a towing company to come take away my totaled minivan.

I'm working summer school and generally not having summer off.

Our Arthurian campaign is running pretty well.  Everyong is having fun.  Only problem is that it's not very Arthurian.  Turns out that an Arthurian campaign that takes place in a dungeon and does not involve any noble knights is like the characters on Red Dwarf experiencing "...the heady medieval atmosphere of 14th century deep space."  

So, Avalon I is somewhat under-Merlined.  Maybe Avalon II will work out better.  

Sometimes I call it the XXX Campaign.  I don't think it has occured to any of my gamers why.  It's not because it's sexy or because it's got no name.  It's because this year marks 30 years since I started the Seven Worlds Campaign as a DM.

So, anyway....hi everyone.  Now maybe I should answer some of the in-box items in my PM's.

well the thing was...because we go the end of september, doing something for a week in mid-august was too close to the time, so it was always on a loser decision-wise right from the outset, which was why i decided to go to the texas con when the opportunity presented itself, with it being in June.

but funds-permitting, who knows next year. if the funds are there and the dice roll just right, we are going to go (hopefully going to bring the girlfriend along)....

will certainly miss being there for sure, as its just such a great time. am really jealous of you all going, i really am
