Obiter popped over to London yesterday, so last night we toasted Gary with a few drinks.

And, here the Guardian featured his passing on the leader page today - perhaps not the best piece so far - but prominent for a national paper.

Finally saw that my paper had an article for Gygax yesterday, though just seems the Associated Press was behind it so nothing extraordinary. Has anyone seen this on their TV news? any links if so?

It occurs to me, does anyone know if Jack (John Holbrook) Vance is aware of Gary's passing? EGG was a big fan, and I doubt that Vance (over 90 years of age) would become aware of the news via the Internet, and the major television news networks have regrettably devoted fairly little airtime to this story. I am unsure where Vance is located (CA?), but he might want to attend the funeral... Just thought I'd chime in, if anyone has a way to inform him.

Interesting, the two liked each other, and Gary even made it as a character ... and vice versa.

Roberto Di Meglio of Nexus Editrice (the Italian company behind War of the Ring, Marvel Heros and the upcoming Age of Conan boardgame) shares his experience of meeting in person Gary Gygax for the first time (warning: it's in Italian).

It was a big deal because, you know, Italian and Americans live in different continents and meeting designers 'known' just for their names on games was really something to remember for decades...

It's possible that the only Italian all genres gaming magazine will publish an article about Gary's passing and career (and influences...) in a future issue.
