Wow, that paid off for discodadda. Crazy price for a B2.

These listings I am a bit perplexed about, as I think they are really over the top, considering these are the modern reproductions from the silver anniversary set:

Just hold off until the bubble bursts and the speculators end up dumping their investment for pennies on the dollar. It’ll be a great way to know you’re getting a high quality book so that when you release it from its plastic tomb, you know how beautiful it’ll look (unless of course you get hit with the ol’ re-slab scam, then it’ll be like a birthday surprise when you open it, lol)

I agree Skullhammer. People purchasing the slabbed silver anniversary items (at this price) will surely have regrets later on. There ARE only 5k copies of these modules so the seller may be pricing along that line of thinking. As stated a thousand times before in this thread, grading has its place and picking the right items is important, however I am not seeing it with these.

These modules typically sell for around $25-35 in pristine condition. They were never in SW.

These prices are definitely excessive. Even with a premium for being graded and slabbed, they surely aren't worth 30X their normal valuation. A sealed silver anniversary boxed set is only valued at about $500 on average. That would be a much better investment.

Note that this auction was for a SECOND PRINTING of B2 Keep on the Borderlands.
Not even a First Print... and that module shipped in every Basic box set from 1980 to 1983 (7th thru 12th printings) plus individual module sales.
B2 estimated print run at over 1,000,000+. Source: 1999 Silver Anniversary Retrospective booklet

The last couple have sold on Ebay for $800 or so. With the amount of these the buyers opened (I personally opened at least a dozen to sell the contents over the years), I believe we will see these sell in the $1000 range pretty soon.

Most B2 modules however were used....the ones I find are typically trashed with pencil marks, torn out handouts, etc. I think a pristine B2 should go for quite a bit depending on edition. But yeh, on average they are not hard to find at all.

B2s and Q1 seem to wear super easy. I know they were played a lot, but many look like the were played with as a frisbee.

Considering 9.8 is really about as high as the scale goes for comics and magazines, this is amazing for a 44 year old magazine.

The CGC census shows reports they have graded one Dragon No. 1 at 9.8.

Same guy with the Darlene cover just hit the jackpot....sold eight NM issues of Dragon mags in the 30s and 40s for $300-$500 each. These are super hard to find in anything but average condition.

Just another (likely silly) question about slabbed magazines: i own some early Dragon with mailing cover... if i decide to slab them, is this mailing cover preserved or not?

Always check with graders before sending things in, but they would leave those on.

I feel like I should get some of the random copies of Dragon that I have picked up on the cheap while scrolling Ebay.

I have #23 to #28 in what is at least VF condition and the "Deck of Many Things" insert one (with insert) in great condition also.

Just to put them on Ebay and see if these prices are the real deal or some ridiculous money laundering exercise.

I suspect it might be very clever to get an L3 graded and up. I have that cheap one that someone pointed out here and I got for 20 bucks that would be a good shout I guess.

I imagine the high-grade/highest price ever listings are: "this is what it would cost to get this from me." I know I am just projecting how I would feel.
