Excuse me... 4.5 for that S1 would mean conditions below the average??? What average do they refer? ...the average is by lightyears worse than that copy... this is a nonsense... and in addition it is creazy because desciptions should refer to objective standards and these are based on subjective definitions.

However i do see a good application of those plastic cases: the items in SW could be the only clever solution since they likely won't be never opened! The remaining part is still on the 'non clever' side for me... (no offense intended!)

4.5 is VG+ I believe. 5.0 is that of an average collectible.

Shrink is not a condition

You arent wrong. :) Dissonance exists between words and numbers.

The words are accurate, it's "Very Good+."

The numbers begin with 10, essentially perfect, no defects of any kind. Most all products aren't manufactured "perfect" and have incurred some "damage" in shipping. Hence my S1 is a 4.5 out of "get the F out of here, how am I supposed to find one like that?"

This is a comic from 1963. I think our hobby is 11 years behind because its 11 years behind.

Here's a sad story I can attach to that. My brothers and I had that issue, and a boatload more comics that are now worth a fortune: X-Men 2 and up, two full Avengers runs, all the Journey Into Mystery/Thor, Hulk 181, FF, you name it. None of them were even in 5.5 condition, much less 2.0. They were all stored in several sterilite buckets and a Hope chest my grandmother owned at my aunt's house up the street. She passed away, and my non-blood uncle stayed in the house for a year and without any warning whatsoever sold the house AND CONTENTS.
Those boxes at today's prices are worth more than the house sold for, so someone probably got a free house.

Ugh, that's a terrible story.  That seems to happen a lot.

Make sure the right people in your family know what you have!

What a luck for those who entered the house! ...can you imagine if even the new owners don't realize the value of those comics and thown them in the garbage?!?

Back to those plastic cases (+grading) i came to a conclusion for the rpg market: they could be worth only for SW items as this state does not allow the full usability/reading of the book... (ahemmm... please note that i wrote it is a state of a book and not a condition!)

I am not sure they would even grade a module in shrink wrap since they would not be able to exam the inside pages.

In my opinion, grading and encapsulation only makes sense for items in better condition.  Is it nice enough that you don't want to handle it?

So far, we have no idea if many are going to want graded modules, or graded modules might become a different kind of collecting all together.

It only makes sense to grade the best of anything modern. Oldest stuff from genres can be graded in about any condition. I think modules will end up in the middle.

Up The Garden Path would be glorious it in 2 or 3. A S1 of 6-7 would be great. I think 3 out of 36 S1s listed on ebay, of any printing, would grade above a 5 right now. Many B2s are still in the 1001 box, I imagine those would be common 7+.

Question: if you slab (say) some module like S1 thats in a 5. No mildew/non-smoking house. The way that they slab it - does that help stop any degradation within the slab (say, a spray or is it low moisture environment)?

Like could someone crack it open in 10 years and be like "this thing is rotten as shit".

One thing I haven't mentioned is the phrase "buy the comic/card/whatever not the grade."

Could someone sell a slab they know went through abuse? Yes. Of course, what you see most commonly, like a lot and all the time, is folks regrading or cross grading. Meaning people buy a 5.5 thinking they can get a 6 or 6.5 from a re-submission. A 1/2 or full point for a golden age comic can be hundreds or thousands of dollars. Comics and sports cards are largely an optimized market. Prices change, but that price is kind of what they sell for.

You still have to care for modules, that includes sunlight. The slab protects mostly from physical damage. Slabs are durable, they protect from drops, crushing, spills and most importantly handling. I wouldn't do it, but you could puta label on a slab and put it through mail just fine - save for the slab getting scratched. The comic can breath though. They have to as I understand it. So high humidity, being submerged in water or smoke will damage the module.

I am not directing this to you btw, but some folks that dont like comic book grading point to the fact that slabs are not indestructible or perfect. Which is true. But they are about exactly what anyone of us would want to protect an item. Its as good as it gets.

This is a video of a guy cracking a comic out of the newer slab. It will give you a good idea of case and protection. The slabs are sonic welded, so you are "breaking" the slab when you open it. There is no putting it back together.

Love the meme. :)

If slabbing attracts collectors, this could be a fair price by the middle of next year or 2025. If slabbing doesn't catch on, this may be a fair price by the middle of next year or 2025.

I hope it doesnt catch on. I love marginally ruining the condition of my collection by actually reading it!

Well that's why you'll need to buy one slabbed and one to read!

I'm pretty sure a bunch of us here have multiple copies of stuff. One in great condition and one to read

Part of slabbing, for me, is curating. There is no reason to handle some of this stuff - again, just to me. There are to many other copies I can just leave on my table or desk for reading.
