Mike, something for the to-do list:

This area looks like ethnic food paradise......... Japanese, Vietnamese, Mex & Tex-Mex, India (very strong), and on and on.
I'd be really really interested in:

1. List of restaurants & price ranges
2. Names/cellphones of those locals with vehicles who are willing to volunteer, taxi, or loan the means to reach same
3. A linkup board so you can connect with 2-3 others who wanna eat at the same place & time

Think about it tweak it, but jump on this op for some amazing food variety.

The restaurant/bar definitely dropped the ball this year and makes our impending move less of a chore. For what it's worth, I had an incredible bacon cheseburger there Sunday afternoon but I suspect since people had left they were less in hurry up mode. One of their boxed dinners I had was great, the other I threw away after one bite it was so bad. We'll be dealing with a better restaurant next year.

There are no restaurants close by or within walking distance to the Westin for next year (there is ONE Denny's right across the street) except for the one in the hotel itself (past time for Doug and I to head out there and have a meal to test it out). Anyone wanting to leave the premises for food will have to find a ride so we will work on the sort of list you suggested, Frank, as the hotel shuttles will not take people anywhere but back and forth to the airport. However, the city of Irving has a shuttle service that goes to nearby areas with restaurants and we will post a schedule as soon as we get one. I'll also get a list of restaurants up. Not sure if it's a good idea for people to have their private info out in public (cellphone numbers), this is a large hotel and we will not be the only attendees there the weekend we have the con (we don't even have all the rooms until Friday). Maybe we can keep a list up by the registration desk.

I posted a detailed play report with pictures HERE of my Dungeon of Dracula games, the KnKA Forum, chainsaw's AS&SH adventure, my Swords & Six-Siders game, and the Keep on the Borderlands. I got to run some teenagers through the Caves of Chaos for their first time, and the way the adventure ended is just classic.

I did have some negative experiences this year that I wanted to make Mike and Doug aware of, because I'm not sure if I was just unlucky or this is a new trend.

During the day-time auction, people standing near my vendor table had set their drink down on my table. I asked them to move their drink. I came back in later and they had set their books and boxed sets down, not on my table, but on my merchandise on my table.

It also seemed to me that there were a lot more no shows from people who signed up for games, not just for me, but I've heard others mention it, too. I don't recall this many no shows in previous years. Was there a weather problem or something going on?

I expect to have some no shows for games early in the CON, due to travel and flight delays, etc., but as an example, I had 8 people sign up for my Saturday evening Keep on the Borderlands game and only 4 people showed up.

Sorry about that Steve, sounds very rude on their part. We won't have to worry about that after this year, there is a separate presentation room we will use for the seminars, live auction and raffle, and midnight auction, so no more invasion of private space!

As Doug said the weather made this con have the most no-shows ever, as dozens of people decide not to come rather than miss 1-2 days of gaming. It was amazing how many Wed flights were rescheduled to Friday night. Also had at least one couple that came down with strep and didn't show because of that, not to mention the usual work related stuff. The sign up sheets seemed to help a lot but unfortunately we don't always have time to update them when someone tells us they aren't going to be able to make it.

Thanks to Mike and Doug for a fantastic con, my first ever multi-day con!

I played in 5 games, and participated in the Holmes Panel with Chris Holmes and grodog. The panel was a lot of fun though we had technical difficulties recording it, but I believe at least some audio and/or video was saved.

The games were the Misty Isles of Eld with Chris Kutalik, where I played a short-lived were-shark; grodog's high-level Castle Greyhawk game where we battled a demi-goddess; an EPT "Death on the Nile" type murder-mystery with Victor Raymond (a long-time player in M.A.R. Barker's campaign), a high level BECMI game with Frank Mentzer, and a Gamma World 1E game with Steve Winter. Each very different and each enjoyable.

In the Gamma Word game with me were smarmy1 and Doug's son. Smarmy1 and I discussed shrinkwrap during the break.

I also met cgould42 after the Holmes Panel, and I believe Blackmoor played in the BECMI game.

I actually enjoyed the meals I had at the hotel, though I mostly stuck to the breakfast buffet and the "pick two" lunch menu.

It was an Artists of TSR with all of the prints signed by the artists, plus a PMT of ? (didn't catch, something about a Roslof print that was considered by ultimately not included as one of the 12 prints in the set).

I believe it was just the Artist of TSR portfolio but it was Diesel's personal copy and he had gone around at the time and got it signed by the contributors...

I had a long chat with Diesel the day before and he showed me that Artists of TSR portfolio; he was displaying it on a stand behind his booth. He took the PMT out and showed it to me; it was a Roslof design that he said was meant for the portfolio but not included. He bought it from one of the Collector's Trove auctions. He didn't show me the prints but said they were signed by each artist. He didn't mention anything about selling it; at the auction they mentioned it was a last minute decision on his part. IIRC, the reserve was about $2800, so he got almost twice that - there were two bidders at the end that drove up the price; one was on the phone.

I think you bought one of the first prints for sale which means you probably have #1 or #2! I came up to Jeff Easley's table early Thursday morning and asked why he wasn't numbering the prints. I think he then asked me how many there were. I think I said there were 75 and then he said that he had already sold a few. Oh well, I thought. Anyway, I went up to him later and saw that he was then numbering them, but he was writing the number on the art which made it difficult to see. The number I saw on the top print that day was "5." Or maybe he started at #1 after my comment? Who knows? Doug, probably. :?

Sorry I need to correct myself here... turns out mine is signed, was just signed in the dark part of the print and I didn't see it until I looked at an angle. But clearly there. So I can confirm #3 and #4 were signed, so at most only the first couple went unsigned, if any at all.
