I still play a lot of 3.5, and when I re-focused on collecting D&D again (say a few years ago) I started on the 3rd Edition items.

Funny thing is, he was sitting right next to me--I'm the one who sold it.

I'm definitely glad it went to a good home.

One of the higher priced items to sell at Gencon this year was Tim Kask's personal TSR lizard logo belt buckle. Tim and a handful of others at TSR were each given two examples. Tim's example had some very specific and interesting provenance which I think helped give the item such a high value. A number of folks bid initially but when it reached about $300 one fellow dropped out, another came in assuming he was going to snag it, and then the dark horse in the corner raised his card as well. The ensuing auction battle between the two took the value to $600. In the end the dark horse walked away with a prized new item leaving most everyone in the room in awe, especially Tim!!

I challenged Bill on the Dwarven Glory but had to bow out at $300.

On another note:  Angela Imrie won best of show for her diarama of a bullet chasing a hobbit/hafling out of his house.  She did everything down to the smallest detail.  It was perfect and I hope we get some pics up of it.

I'm still exhausted.  Had a fantastic time, but we need more Acaeum members to join in on the fun.

I did grab the Gygax book and had Gayle sign it.  Also grabbed two of the buttons they were handing out.

On Sunday Angela dressed in her costume of leather corsett with black lace shirt, leather bracers, leather belt, and period floor length skirt.  She was hounded all day for pictures.  So Jeff and I decided we needed costumes as well and Jeff found a floor length leather (black and red) coat with the shoulder riffles (he looked like an evil magic-user in it) and bought it for next year.  There was a leather vest I was interested in and will probably buy it next year (was out of money at this point and these things are quite expensive).  So Jeff, Angela, and myself should be in costume on Sunday next year.

The diorama of the bulette (note sp.; pronounced boo-lay) is an absolute stunner. The most stunning aspect of the entire issue is that it was gifted to me by Angela. I had heard a year or more ago that she was painting a Reaper bulette for me; as the very first monster I statted and storied (ignore Wiki--that is being corrected with Luke's blessing), it has always had a very special place in my heart. (Several wonderful people have gifted me with all of the various plastic versions, for which I remain truly grateful.)

When I first saw it, the night before it was entered, I was floored. You see, I already own a diorama that Angela created two years ago, and gifted me with, and realized that I was in the presence of one of the genuine masters of the art then. I have been painting and judging figures for well over 35 years; even if my eyesight would permit another 35 years of painting I could not hope to reach her level of expertise, and some folks around Cincy thought I was pretty fair in my day.

When I saw the crystal trophies for Best Diorama and Best in Show, the hair raised on the back of my neck and my arms; I was momentarily bereft of speech. (Not likely to happen again in my lifetime, I assure you.)

SaxonAngel, I cannot thank you enough. The mental image of your screen name is going to be shaped and tempered by my imagination into a most formidable entity in one of my forthcoming adventures.

I still cannot wrap my head around the whole thing...it's mine! bwuhahhahhahahahah!!!!

PS Jeff asked that I let Angela post the pictures as she has some excellent ones already. They may be home from their extended return trip by the end of the weekend.

News report stated that Gencon attendence this year was up 20% from last year.  That seems about right, as I thought there qere quite a bit more people this year than last year.

That figure was attributed to the company that runs Gencon.  According to their figures it was a 20% increase.
