just as a shift of chat, we've had around 10inches of snow today and things have stopped... so I've spent the day looking after my two boys and the good lady wife who has been diagnosed with swine flu (which meant a 5 mile walk for me to the 'local' chemists to pick up the Tamiflu)

and I've had a chance to take a good look through all the old mods listed here and "interesting things on ebay" threads and now I want to go and buy a load of things I don't need!! :lol:

Damn you snow and giving me spare time!!! :lol:

Am currently LOVING the snow and the fact that everything stops

Everyone walks a little slower, smiles a little bit more, and goofs off work early. Brillo.

Sorry about your wife and the flu. I had swine flu over Xmas - really quite boring after the first few days in bed. Still got a phlegmy cough (*cough*). Best of luck!!

Ok, share your ridiculous winter stories here (with the arctic cold front that just rolled in). It's 20 degrees here in DFW, with temps in the 'teens predicted for the rest of the week, and a high of 25 tomorrow (coldest winter in 14 years from what they are saying...)
Now, I'm sure most of you midwesterners have it much worse...not to mention anyone from the north. Make me happy and tell me how miserable you are.

Oh, and tell me how Global Warming is responsible for this!!!! :lol:

I am in Chicago for work and I was going home tonight. Looks like I will not make it out until Friday morning now. Driving so I am gonna need time for them to clear I-94. Getting around a foot of snow and temps will peak at around 15 or so.

Only 5 to 7 inches of snow today. However, after snow temps fall to around zero to 5 degrees with wind chills well below zero.

I would not call it miserable but definately trending towards that definition.

sounds almost tropical! down to -5 here at the moment, with the windchill taking it down to feeling like -8... Expecting to drop to -11 in the next few days with more snow due. Gotta love those 4x4's for cooking our planet!! :lol:

By the time that I left work on Saturday nearly 40 cm (15.75 inches) of snow had fallen.

My car was buried and took 15 minutes to shovel around the front and the wheels to get out of my parking spot.

On the way home (which normally takes about 7 to 10 minutes) I had hit tracks in the snow three times that nearly put me in the ditch.

When I got home there was a four foot snow bank across my driveway from the plow and nearly that much drifted across the driveway, walk and front steps.

So after punching out at work at 6:30 I finally got into my house at approximately 7:45.

Sunday it warmed up during the day so that everything turned to slush and water but by the time I left work (again at 6:30) it was below freezing and everything in sight was coated with ice (including the roads).

Edit: it has warmed up to -1 today but over the next few days it should be anywhere from -3 to -16.

What really sucks is that it rained last night and all of the highways have a nice sheen of ice on them. And of course, every asshat in DFW with zero clue how to drive in icy conditions are in their car driving to work. Some moron that was a few car lengths in front of me slammed on his brakes as soon as he realized he had come upon a section of icy road and spun out almost crashing into the median. I just coasted around the jackass and waved as I passed.

The list of school and business closures in Ft. Worth is astounding. One of the guys that works in my office couldnt make it to work because he cant get his car out of his subdivision due to all the ice. I wonder how many of his retard neighbors left their sprinklers on overnight?
