Feeding frenzy.  It happens once in a while when attention is drawn to something.  A good strategy is to list a few SW items and lure in the prey.  Once they are hooked they have to have more...

Really can't explain the Castle Amber though.  Maybe they think it is SW too?

It happened to be in the water when the feeding frenzy started...

I almost want to bid a dollar just to say I was part of the madness, but knowing my luck that dollar would stick.

Glad I got mine for a cool ... holy $152 Batman.  That is a serious WTF.  I have to believe I'm missing something.  Thats just really, really, really out there.

Time was, you could get these Best of Dragons for next to nothing. Granted, they look to be in nice shape and they're all in one place, but both vol. 1 and vol. 2 are only the "revised" printings   .

Yes I saw that listing earlier and thought... hmmm.....

Crack Pipe smoke all around!

Winning bidder with 9 feedback and of all the players in the listing (including bidders and seller-28- ) NONE have over 74 feedback score.

Might not mean a thing... but makes one wonder anyway.

You should see what some of the D&D Minis "named" personages (e.g., Drizzt, Elminster, Mordenkainen), or even commons from the earliest sets (Harbinger) go for sometimes. I got into D&D Minis at the very beginning, and made a killing about 3 years later when I decided I didn't need a tabletop covered in badly painted plastic crap. IIRC, I made about 300% on my "investment".

Is there an "official" price rating somewhere? I have plenty of these minis...

Pip is correct...  $50 is reasonable, $85 is greedy (But then again I didn't think that Gnat would get $225 on his boxed set either...)

It came out in one of the very first sets. I remember playtesting 4th Edition at Winter Fantasy (2008?), and having my character being sucked into the gelatinous cube. And it's an awesome mini, because the bottom pops out, and you can actually put minis in it!!!!

I'd be interested in one just for the cool factor, but I can wait to get it at a less expensive price...

Oh and the other thing... IT'S A TROLL AND TOAD SALE!!! They always mark up everything by 25%...

Point made and Neither did I.  8)
Although with mine it was not a fixed price listing... it was an open Auction With a BIN and a very reasonable reserve.
And yes, Troll and Toads listings are always on the VERY High Side.

The Gel cube is not only highly desirable, but they were never really available to consumers.  The thing is almost exactly the same size as the box they were sold in so you could squeeze the booster packs and id it.  Since the booster was only about $12-15 the Gel Cube shot straight to 30 as soon as released...    Even if the store didn't pull them for ebay.... the first smart customer bought all the packs as soon as the booster cases hit the shelves.  Consequently, many people never got a shot at one off of Ebay and the price reflects a demand that was artificially different than for other minis.  Some of us could pull certain dragons or figures with an 80% confidence rate... but with Gel Cubes it was exactly 100% confidence rate.  They should have released it in a larger box....  etc.

Eventually, it probably will be 80 bucks.  Because demand will continue and almost all of them are likely with players who bought them to keep.

In addition, you can pop off the bottom and put a player character inside so that it is trapped in the cube during play.  It's the coolest functional game use of any d&d mini...

Plastic ice cube with its bottom cut off would have the same effect. Just remove the plastic-dead fly.
