And now for something completely different...

After three years as student, 6 months as TAT (Teaching Assistant in Training), 18 months as TA (Teaching Assistant), as of today (well, yesterday as I am typing this), I have been promoted to Assistant Instructor for Tai Chi Chuan at the Kuoshu school I attend. It's a long haul from here to full Instuctor.

Well I have seen it all. The RPGA was mentioned in a SNL skit about Mitt Romney.

It's probably not online yet, but I'll post a link if I can find it. My wife thought it was hysterical that my nerdy hobby got noticed by mainstream comedy.

Anyway, I thought I would share. This should make ExTSR very proud.

Congrats. The good news is that in a dark alley the thugs don't know to run until it's too late.

Isn't it time to drop the simpering monikor for something current. Perhaps perhaps.... Roaring Iguana or Screeching Croc..

Since you indicate you expect further development, when can we expect you to become Thundering Raptor.

Although Simpering Toad is a great monikor... it's hard to envision the flying feet and fists as a core competency!

And, all kidding aside, the dedication to the sport is admirable. Good job!

Flying feet and fists? Hardly.

I do frequently thunder, though... then I flush!

It was health reasons that got me involved in the first place. As in, I have none. Most of my immune system went on vacation. My exposure and practice of the martial art aspect is limited due to this (and lack of funds), but it's great to be in a school which instructs it as a martial art instead of strictly an exercise regimen where the instructors have no clue what the movements mean.

Doing what these guys are doing? (sanshou - or competitive sport fighting - like boxing, fighting within parameters) Not gonna happen! :lol:

You're right, SNL should have never done that sketch about Mitt Romney at the RPGA. It was obviously another attack on our hobby by those who just want to make fun of us. Wouldn't be the first time either, as the NBC shows 30 Rock & Community have made cruel remarks about D&D in the recent past as well. Boycott their shows, start a letter writing campaign, do whatever you can to stop the pain.

That was the infamous Dateline report on GM trucks. Not getting dramatic enough footage, the producers of Dateline had the trucks rigged with incendiary devices to guarantee good footage when the trucks collided in tests. It shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone that the media will lower the bar on dishonesty to get good ratings.

Poor scapegoat, I have a difficult time believing only a single person is responsible. When I worked for the Arizona Governor's Office nothing got released without the approval of at least three people. Not only approved, but signed, as in we verify this is true (or what we want you to believe is true) and its our asses who will be held internally accountable. I cannot believe the same stuff at the newsroom comes down to one poor schlub at NBC. They do have a legal department, or if they don't they better find one quick. Maybe Frank can sell them some shrink wrapped lawyers, they are gonna need them.

I went to Sakura-Con this weekend with my wife and daughter. The coolest thing at the con was this map of H.P. Lovecraft's Dreamlands.

The picture is of the artist's booth and the url is his online store. The map is really nice and it is printed on high quality material.

I am posting it here because I think a number of people on the Acaeum will want to get this poster map. It's really impressive. I figured the price was well worth it since the money went directly to the artist and I got a map I am planning to frame.
